Nesaway — Formal Complaint Regarding Unjust Charges, Deposit Non-Refund, and Mental Harassment

I am writing this complaint to express my extreme dissatisfaction and frustration with the way my move-out and settlement have been handled by Nestaway.

I started living in a Nestaway-managed property located in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, in August 2022. At the time of onboarding, I paid a security deposit of approximately ₹30, 000 along with around ₹7, 100 in Nestaway service charges. During my entire stay of nearly four years, not once did any representative from Nestaway visit the property to check on maintenance issues, tenant well-being, or the overall condition of the premises.

However, the moment I vacated the property in 2026, Nestaway suddenly became highly active in finding reasons to impose charges on me.

Before moving out, I personally ensured that the room was cleaned and left in a decent condition. Any issues present in the property were a result of normal wear and tear accumulated over four years of occupancy. For example, the washroom flush had developed a leakage issue during the last couple of months of my stay. This was not due to any negligence or damage caused by me; it was a routine maintenance issue that naturally arose over time. Since my move-out was approaching, I continued managing the issue until vacating the property.

As per the move-out process, an inspection was supposed to be conducted. I waited for the Area Manager to arrive at the scheduled time. Instead, I received a message stating that he was occupied in a client meeting and might either arrive much later or conduct the inspection the following day. Based on his advice, I handed over the keys directly to the property owner.

The very next day, the Area Manager requested the move-out OTP. When I asked whether the inspection had actually been conducted, I was simply told to refer to the recorded video. Upon reviewing the video, I found that the property appeared to be in good condition, with only minor wear and tear that would require minimal maintenance—nothing beyond what should reasonably be expected after four years of occupancy.

To my complete surprise, a few days later I discovered that Nestaway had raised charges amounting to ₹8, 516 against me. The settlement breakup provided was highly exaggerated and, in my opinion, completely unjustified. Despite raising a dispute and seeking clarification, no meaningful explanation or resolution was provided.

What is even more shocking is that:

My security deposit has not been refunded while i understand since i was supposed to give 45 days notice period, i gave 30 days notice period but even after deducting this amount + their painting amount i should be getting my remaining deposit.
I am being asked to pay an additional ₹8, 516.
I am continuously receiving payment reminder emails.
I have even received communications threatening legal action.

I fail to understand how a tenant who stayed in the property for four years, maintained it responsibly, cooperated during move-out, and left it in a reasonable condition can suddenly be treated as a defaulter.

This entire experience has caused me significant mental stress, anxiety, and harassment. As a tenant, I expected transparency, professionalism, and fair treatment from Nestaway. Instead, I have been forced to repeatedly defend myself against unexplained charges while my deposit remains withheld.

During my stay, several people warned me that Nestaway had a reputation for not returning security deposits. I chose not to believe such claims and trusted that my case would be handled fairly. Unfortunately, my experience has only reinforced those concerns. Not only am I struggling to recover my rightful deposit, but I am also being pressured to pay additional amounts without adequate justification.

I request that Nestaway immediately:

Provide a detailed and transparent explanation of every charge levied against me.
Share inspection reports, evidence, and supporting documentation for the deductions.
Reassess the disputed charges considering the normal wear and tear associated with four years of occupancy.
Process and release any refundable portion of my security deposit without further delay.
Stop sending threatening payment and legal notice emails until the dispute is fairly reviewed and resolved.

I sincerely hope this matter is addressed professionally and fairly. However, if a satisfactory resolution is not provided, I will be compelled to escalate the matter through the appropriate consumer grievance and legal channels.
