[Resolved]  Smoking Banned in Public Places in India — A ban on smoking in public places which covers offices, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, college campuses, bars and discos.

A ban on smoking in public places which covers offices, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, college campuses, bars and discos has come into force in India on October 2, 2008 in an effort to curb high levels of tobacco addiction. The law also bans direct and indirect advertising of tobacco products and the sale of cigarettes to children.
India's health ministry says hundreds of thousands of people who have never smoked die each year by inhaling smoke from other people's cigarettes and bidis (small hand-rolled cigarettes common in India). The penalty for smoking is a 200 rupee ($4.50) fine. However, how well the ban and penalty are actually enforced remains to be seen.
The reaction has been predictable and varied. Bars and clubs are concerned that they may face a drop in patronage, cigarette vendors are ruing the impact on their revenue, and many smokers are outraged that their freedom has been taken away.

Iam sure that, smoking band in public places in India, this act never affect the people.because the rules & punishments are too weak especially in India.
A very good law to be enforced.. But Alas!! The Karnataka govt seems to be hibernating or trying to prove that since Bangalore is the Silicon city, nd major IT hub, wat ever they say is 'ultrascientific'.. while all the companies offered a separate Smoking area for the smokers which infact did not harm the public. As oer the new rule, in Karnataka your are not supposed to smoke in an enclosed area or private area, rather you can smoke on the roads and streets. This would inversely affect lots of people including children, pregnant ladies, old people, allergic people etc...

So my thought is: whether the law has been enforced properly in Karnataka or atleast in Bangalore...
It is very good to all. And i think india will comeover its all problem. Thanks.
Guys!!!....please think with your brains...what difference does it make if someone is smoking on the road...are you trying to compare the tiny cigrette with the noxious fumes which comes from cars and other vehicles???....and for that reason...why does anyone go to a pub...not to offer puja??? they go to drink and if they can drink they should be allowed to smoke...it makes sense in a resturant to be a non smoking zone...but what would children or pregnant ladies be doing in a pub or disco in the first place...grow up people!!!

Motorways India — Telephone Complaint

An agent of Tata Indicom Tele Services "Sheeghar Communication Pvt Ltd."Kashmere Gate has booked a new connection and given the number[protected] to me and charged Rs 2476/- from me ,Now they are demanding Rs 15000/- from me to get that number. I have a slip of that. What can i do to get that number?
smoking itself is bad and smoking in public place harming others is nothing but selfishness.I think the law for band of smoking in public place should strictly implemented. college street coffee house at kolkata is a big example o[censored]nsuccessful implementation of this kind of law.
I appreciate the efforts of NLC Limited to stop the usage of Plastics. But I would wish to draw the attention of the concerned authorities, to the menace caused by people in the store road junction bus stop. There are a few petty shops selling tobacco products just behind the bus stop.People purchase these products and sit in the bus shelter and smoke happily. I was so irritated today as there were so many girl students and working women waiting for the bus to go to college /work spot. Two middle aged men sat right in the middle of the of the bus stop and were smoking beedi not even considering the presence of so many women. All o[censored]s had to move out. I did not want to pick up a fight and spoil my first day at work.I request the authorities of NLC to consider my request and take appropriate action
Dear All,

This is to draw the attention of the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam authorities that despite repeated complaints through its 198 IVRS system for over a month, my landline telephone (No.[protected] continues to be faulty with lots of noise and frequent break in connections during conversations. The authorities here are taking a very casual approach to my requests for fault rectification and have been suffering due to this account. I have been earlier residing in Sector 16B, Pkt-3 in Dwarka, New Delhi and have recently shifted since April 2010 to my new premises in Secto 11, Pkt 2, Dwarka, New Delhi. Sadly, it took the MTNL to my previous telephone connection to this new one almost 15 days !! That's the service MTNL is providing these days to the residents of DWARKA (New Delhi).

Will the concerned authorities rise up to the occasion to relieve me from this inconvenience ??

Awaiting a positive response ...

Thanks & Regards
Debashis Roy

Govt of India / Indian Public — Smoking in Public places

Its been 2 years that smoking has probhibited in public places. But no one is bothered about it. Smokers without fear and without bothering about others are happily smoking in public places.

The law which has been imposed by Govt. of India has no effect and no one is bothered about it(including public).

Law should be applied strictly. Miles of journey will start with a single mile. This is a long journey. Every one should take part in probhiting smoking. Government should educate people on the ban. It should take necessary steps to publicize the health hazards of smoking which not only effects smokers but also non smokers.

I kindly request every non-smoker to oppose smoking in public places in a polite way.

You can reach me [protected]@yahoo.com

Regards,
Kiran
Hi

Can any one guide how to stop smoker in public place such as autos in Gurgaon?
Hi,

What makes difference if people smoke on the road side or in public places
Railway is not taking action for banning the smoking in EMU trains like to Palwal, Ghaziaba, Kurukshetra, Ambala etc. People smoke heavily and dare to complaint any body. Moreover railway has not put sufficient number of Prohibition orders in the coaches. Most of of the passengers have to inhale the bidi smoke making uncomfortable to sit. Authority have to take action on priority. Railways may not become a tool for damaging the health of passengers.
