Hi!

We are a group of Test engineers who are contractors and some o[censored]s have been asked to leave Paypal. When we were brought in nobody told us that this is the kind of environment that does not treat engineers with respect or what the contract is, we have been badly used by Paypal and our company as well and our careers have been damaged to some extend. Paypal is a good environment and the domain is good for us engineers but it is very badly managed.
Nobody even asked us our feedback and concerns that we have in the org, we are writing this email which is our experience and on behalf of many who are suffering still inside. This is the voice of the Test engineer. Even when you come here to chennai you never ask us our feedback, feedback is always taken from a select few chosen by the managers so that you folks in san jose will not know exactly what is going on.
We have been asked to go but so many CQ managers who are troubling the engineers and do not have professional behavior are still in the org even though we have escalated several times about them. We want to share what we have witnessed so far in this 2-3 years
Thulaisidass Pradeep - This manager has copied in the bluefin certification exam and passed, everybody is aware of it, he has brought in his own friends from his previous org and has interviewed them himself and hired them, the hiring process is very bad and not like other companies, here in paypal managers can do anything. This manager is not professional and is such a crook
Kalyanaraman Chandra - this manager has grown only because he ran behiend ranga and literally acted as a servant to Ranga. Most ranga managers treat ranga like a God and worship him and get all the good ratings and promotions, the ones who do not run behiend ranga land up in the bottom of the ranking. chandra favors his own caste member viswa and simply gives him a good hike though he is not doing any work for the past 2 years. Every manager has his own caste member as his right hand and there is hieraracy in the team. some to do work and some to get the bonus and the credit, the folks who do the actual work or not rewarded they are in the bottom, the reason that is given is no visibility, no networking, not politically savy, too much focussed on the ground work, or you guys work hard you can get a job anywhere
Raghavan Swami - this manager is so unprofessional that it is a joke that even such a manager exists in paypal bullies the engineers who are down in the rankings, provides feedback and performance feedback in front of other engineers. Most of the managers do each other favors and bring in their own favorites to the team. Vipul has converted one of his favorite engineers Sarav who is from his own hometown who does not have any technical skills, now this engineer does not want to go to bangalore so they are try desperately to move and frame some engineer here in chennai so that they can retain this sarav in chennai. Nobody knows and can understand how he got promoted to a sr.manager, lacks basic manners and etiquette and people managment skills, all because they belong to the brahmin caste they get promoted and have strong connections. He is asking engineers not to log bugs as they will show testing was not done properly
Saravareddy Chandramohan - This manager is all the time in calls in conference rooms taking care of his personal shrimp business, they all get a good rating because they know how to network and they strategy is "you scratch my back, I will scratch yours", another of Ranga's favorite managers has not done anything in paypal and is promotes his own caste engineers and is very open about it. All of ranga old managers are the key people in chennai who control calibration and are the site leads.They literally run their own business here, what they say and decide is final, no one can question them or else they will be taken care of. These managers have a strong sense of entilement that they will network and speak only to a select few engineers and managers
Shabeer Sufi - This manager is the all time leader of the muslim group, the team is full of muslims and engineers from his group, it is being said that he has the strong support of key QA directors who are muslims and they opening help each other and greet each other in meetings and support each other. Paypal is a breeding place for muslim fervor and sentiments. he is so unprofessional everyone is afraid of him. So many escalations on his bad behavior but still he grows and everything is hid and washed away all because of his connections. Muslims to muslim they take care of each other, it is disgusting to see this kind of favortism opening practised in paypal, what will happen to us engineers who are non-muslims. Sufi takes special interest in muslim engineers, gives them special coaching for bar-raisers, goes to managers and speaks for them and even provides them the question paper for blue fin certification to pass. He uses vulgar obscene words in hindi to talk to engineers only thing that prevents them from escalating is that he gives them good hikes and promotions and takes care of them . The muslims in his team must be moved to other teams. Either you have to be a muslim or speak hindi or else you are second class in his team

Chandra takes care of the Telugu group, Sufi is the leader of the muslim group, chandru of the brahmin group, if this is the case who will take care of the rest o[censored]s. There are some who do the work the rest is all based on relationship and all it takes for some manager to lift them up. Managers must be shuffled and should not stay in the team for more than 2 years, they should work with diverse group of people from different backgrounds.. How is it so many QA managers are safe and secure in the data management team but the same help is not given to engineers.
Why is it when so many escalations have gone on Sawmi, Sufi, Chandra, Chandru, Vipul they are still in the company, getting promoted and having a good rating. San Jose is well aware of the escalations and they are not doing anything about it but simply getting rid of engineers. All the managers and directors know that there is a lot of cheating in the bluefin certifcation and nothing is done about it.
If agile is to succeed, casteism, favortism, calibration based on perception, cooking up the numbers, CQ sr managers who do nothing and add no value to the org must change. The culture is very bad and will prevent agile from succeeding, it is all about number cooking up. sr QA managers have such a big portfolio that they cannot go into everything, so the managers below cook up the data and invent their own story around it and make everything look green. Sr Managers must be asked to handle some big initiatives and must be accountable for something they must drive some real delivery work or else they just go around gathering gossip and what they call feedback based on perception and not on facts. The sr. qa manager role is not all necessary in agile world. There is no team work, PD simply blames QA for everything, so QA managers are asked by the Sr. manager to somehow get the numbers . All the data is manufactured because the team that tells the truth will be down in the rankings. PD does not care about quality and all the unit test cases are crap and have cooked up to get the numbers for CI. Many of the Sr. managers and directors in San Jose are supporting these managers in chennai and without their support they cannot be doing so much of mischief. Sr. managers are not adding any value to the team and only talk about metrics that are all cooked up
Paypal is not a place for engineers, technologist or people who want to work in a clean environment, it is a place where a lot of cheating and bad management happens. We blame the leaders on the top who have the power to do something but do not act.
Please do not bring in anybody into this system without clearly telling them about this politics and that Paypal is a relationship based company, it is not a technology company.We were fooled that there is discipline, ethics and process in this place. All it takes to get a good ranking is for someone to talk for you, there is no double checking or proper evaluation. Which fool runs this kind of company especially when you reward folks in the top with high bonus and stocks. Ofcourse people cheat. Calibration process is run like a mafia, favors are done, deals are sealed and the innocent framed and put down in the ranking. We are being sent out mostly because we do have the right connections.
Everywhere we go out for an interview they ask us why the Paypal work environment is not professional and they ask us what is going on, we are not able to say that we are coming from a good environment, everybody knows about PayPal now and it is hard to get a good job with a good paycheck if we have paypal in the resume. That is why no talented and honest person wants to work in payapl.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

This piece of crap is written by Sumala Azariah . She worked as a manager at Paypal and got laid off because of miserable behaviour and extremly bad performance . She got her pay cheques here for / complaining and abusing people .
She got thrown around by different managers (her bosses) and then eventually laid off.
GRAPES are SOUR SUMALA .
be busy with agile lectures in your new company . Torture people there . about them . Dont work . Then same thing repeats . You get thrown around to few groups by your new bosses and then you will get laid off there . and you will again come to this site and write new complaint mail about new set of people !!

I am writing this only because the reader of your post should not be polarized by your derogatory remarks on PayPal.

Your comments are biased, personal, unreal, and fake.

If you are a contractor at PayPal India then you are only asked to go back to your vendor company.
No company can fire an employee of another company. So I would believe you as Full Time Employee just not having enough courage and guts to reveal it. Truth gives courage.

Bluefin certification is not relative grading. If you can get 60% you pass no matter how many others pass or fail. By believing someone
else copied and passed is no reason for you not to pass. But by venting out your frustration I have a reason to think you have given few attempts and failed miserably. Just not good enough. But that’s okay.

Rest all your comments are about how individual managers are polarized in one way or other. I have not worked with all of them. But by
Virtue of spending long time I know many of them .However, unlike you I can only talk about my experience with Sufi for whom I reported for more than 2 years. I am not same religion as him and I only know Tamil and English. I have seen growth under him, Being a lead in his team I know how unbiased and genuinely caring he is about every single individual in his team. I am in North America now and I noticed
how a high performer in his team got promoted recently who is again not the same religion as Sufi.

Kindly Don’t make un-professional personal remarks plz, mainly when you seem to crave for professnalism so much…

With any team and with any managers in PayPal if you put your head down, work hard and add value towards the team goals and larger organization goals you will grow.

Enough of me trying to tell you how your thoughts are biased and filled with negativity.

My advice if you care to take it…

Anywhere you have people you will have politics at some level. I don’t think there is any company without people and without politics. But Good companies never denies growth for the deserved, promotes and cultivates talents. PAYPAL IS ONE SUCH COMPANY.

Any Companies don’t pay you not because of your previous company but because there is no ROI they see on the pay you currently demand. Don’t worry, invest in your skills and be at peace with yourself, and with rest of the world, and PayPal. Everything will fall in place. :)

I guess "paypalian" is more accurate in most of the allegations, many share this concern about PayPal. "wrong layoffs", "favoritism", "autocracy", "fudging of key product results", "anti-technologist environment", "non-ethical, non-professional environment", "non-qualified managers" ---- et all (so many to list). company's dna is so polluted that this company IMO cannot deliver anything useful in the future -even if Google acquires it for a premium.
I still believe that this article is close to reality. How come all colleagues from previous company could be hired based on the interview taken by a single person ?
This is 100% true and this place has lot of illicit relationships too...
i too got laid off some months back after being a paypalian for several years by buttering some senior managers...all good days come to an end...end of days.
I worked in paypal as a direct employee for 7 long years. In my experience they have many Directors and Sr. managers who are good for nothing. They just belabor to their management THAT THEY ARE DOING GREAT THINGS and dance to their boss tunes to keep UP their position with out understanding anything with in the system . They keep dialogs for all the occasion's. If you want to get benefit u need to soap Sr management and wash their legs otherwise they will play the politics. Also there are some non capable managers WHO ARE AT SR MR FEET IN PAYPAL . Even though i was the best performer in my team one of the sr mr pissed on my promotion. The main problem is they they don't have a mechanism to evaluate sr managers (Specific reporting) by engineering team rather than general sr mgmt evaluation. So mgrs and sr mgmt form nexus and play politics to save their poising and spoil others. I know one of the sr mr got caught with a girl inside office premise and laid off. Also past 1 yrs many great talents left from paypal chennai.
