I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the misleading and unethical sales practices I experienced while interacting with representatives claiming to be from Shine.com. I trusted the Shine brand while seeking employment opportunities, but instead I suffered financial loss and considerable mental stress.
A few weeks after uploading my resume on Shine.com, I received a call from a representative who introduced themselves as part of the Shine.com team. During the conversation, they discussed my career goals, preferred job role, and expected salary. I was assured that Shine.com would provide end-to-end job assistance, including profile modification, recruiter coordination, interview scheduling, communication with recruiters in India and abroad, and complete support until I secured a suitable job.
The representative informed me that a payment of ₹3, 047 was required to begin the process. I was repeatedly assured that this would be the only payment required. I was also pressured to make the payment immediately by being told that the payment link would expire and any delay could affect my job opportunities. Based on these assurances, I made the payment.
Later that evening, I received another call from a person who introduced himself as umesh, my Customer Relationship Manager from the Shine.com expert team. He informed me that I had to pay an additional ₹5, 192 to activate my profile/proforma. When I questioned why another payment was required after being assured there would be only one payment, he repeatedly stated that this would be the final payment. He also emphasized that the amount was negligible compared to my expected salary, highlighted Shine.com's reputation as a Hindustan Times venture, and stated that thousands of candidates had benefited from these services. Believing these assurances, I made the second payment.
Soon after, I was informed that another payment of ₹8068 was mandatory for employment verification, especially for international job opportunities. Once again, I was assured that this would be the final payment. Feeling that I would lose the money already invested if I refused, I reluctantly made the third payment.
Despite making a total payment of ₹16917, I have not activated or used any of the services that were promised. No profile enhancement, recruiter coordination, interview scheduling, or any other committed service has been provided to me.
I believe I was induced into making these payments through false promises, repeated misrepresentations, and undue pressure. This experience has caused me significant financial loss, emotional distress, and a complete loss of trust.
I respectfully request that Shine.com:
- Investigate this matter thoroughly.
- Process a full refund of the total amount of ₹16917.
- Provide a written explanation regarding the repeated demand for additional payments despite assurances that each payment would be the last.
- Take appropriate action to prevent other job seekers from facing similar experiences.
I hope Shine.com values its reputation and will resolve this matter fairly and promptly. If I do not receive a satisfactory response within a reasonable time, I will be compelled to escalate the matter to the appropriate consumer protection authorities and other regulatory bodies.
