I am a retired senior citizen who had made an online booking in november 2019 with sotc-mumbai for a 6 nights-7 days conducted package tour of switzerland – “best of switzerland-tour code eur[protected]” starting 4th june 2020 for the undersigned along with my wife. As required by sotc, i have already paid an advance of rs. 1, 88, 000 towards partial payment for the said travel package for 2 pax (Booking id: gs[protected] – only the fx portion of chf 15, 100 and inr 3, 636 (Necessitated due to increase in schengen visa fees) is balance to be paid to sotc.
In view of global travel restrictions consequent to ncov-19 pandemic, it is imperative that sotc is in no position to go ahead with the said tour. However, much to the dismay of hapless customers like me, sotc is reluctant to refund the full booking amount to their clients … instead they have offered rescheduling of travel date or provide a future travel voucher (In case revised travel date is not yet decided) before 31st march 2021 as per an e-mail dated 16th april 2020 received from mr. Vishal suri, managing director – sotc travel ltd.
The said package tour of switzerland is operated by sotc only between the months of april to september every year keeping in view the prevailing weather conditions. With the current status of ncov-19 pandemic in europe and non-availability of any vaccine, there is no way that i can opt for rescheduling of my travel date by september 2020. The alternative of opting for a future travel voucher for travel before 31st march 2021 is also not feasible, as the said package will not start before april 2021. Both my wife and me have existing medical conditions like diabetes and, therefore, it is not advisable to undertake any overseas travel in a hurry with risks o[censored]nwarranted quarantine or infection in host country.
My wife & i have previously travelled quite extensively throughout europe & usa as well as most parts of india and would, therefore, not prefer travel to destinations other than switzerland that do not interest us, needlessly to utilize the advance amount paid to sotc for a package tour, which they are not in a position to organize due to unavoidable constraints.
In view of the foregoing, i seek your kind intervention in the matter by petitioning sotc to extend facility for full refund of booking amounts to customers, should they be unable to comply with their original travel plans due to ncov-19 pandemic.
