Friends, I will only be talking about the Medical Ward in St Johns Hospital Bangalore as I have visited twice midnight and both turned out to be a a nightmare. The 1st visit was in May 2012 when I had a very high and unbearable temperature late at night (after trying Paracetamol), I had to rushed to the nearest hospital with my brother. With the pain and cries, we finally reached. We were then asked to wait in the waiting room for an hour as there are no doctors available. My brother blurted "Isn't this supposed to be the Emergency Ward? If yes, patients are supposed to be treated in that manner. Which hospitals has Waiting room for patients when everyone come here with an emergency purpose?" There was this attendant and an acting sister ( who both thinks that it is their own hospital, replied rudely, coldly, harshly, mercilessly, " If you want us to take care of you, then you have to wait for an hour, if not then "GO". I was sick but couldn't take it anymore nor couldn't speak. I stood up and told my brother to leave, I did not utter a word. Had I been in a situation to talk with a little strength, I would have ensure that I call it a night for both of them.
My 2nd visit was recently again on 11th July 2014 (assuming that the it has changed, but I was wrong!!!). I have been suffering from viral fever with my fluctuating temperature, unbearable joint pains and vomiting, we visited again and for the last time. The same procedure. Because of the weakness, I barely could talk, walk, sit straight, the attendant on the waiting room asked me to sit straight, He says "Oye, sit straight". Is he blind? Dint he know the patient is really sick? My brother says, she is unable, she will lean on me, you may continue checking her BP while my fiancé went for the registration. They would not allow me enter. After sometime, the same nurse which I saw 2 years back is still there (you will get to see her if you go today), came out asking for issue, my brother explained her anything. She was like "why are you reacting so much? There are patients who are more serious than you inside. This is nothing but just a fever." The tone never changed. We were inside finally One tall doctor, a little dark grows beard, wears glasses comes and ask "what happened?". I could hardly speak. I signaled my fiancé to explained, but before doing that, he was like ... SPEAK UP MAN... that was to me... I started to think.. Is that the kind of attitude a Doctor should have? Where is the gentlemen character for a male doctor in this man? My fiancé explained everything. I was asked to take an injection. I slept off for about 10-15 minutes. In between, knowing that the patient in sleeping, he comes and tap 3-4 times on my hand and ask "HOW ARE YOU FEELING MAN?" I felt like saying, "You scared me to death". He also said that my blood count is perfect and nothing to worry. Without wasting a minute and loosing a minute of my life, we left the hospital forever and ever by wasting Rs 950 in that 1 hours time... Temperature came back the very same night and was rushed to Sagar Hospitals, Jayanagar 4 T Blk. 3-4 crews along with a couple of nurse in the Emergency Ward rushed out with a wheelchair and I was taken inside with utmost care. I was asked to get admitted immediately as they doubt its Dengue.. The nurses, the doctors were the most helpful, courteous, kind, friendly, lovely people. My Blood test confirmed Dengue and I'm under treatment now under Dr Pai. I can proudly say that my fever has gone now and I'm recovering...
Guys!! You will find Hospitals everywhere but it is very important to get your check up and consultation done with the right doctor. Doctors and Nurses in St John's Emergency ward seems to be fairly new to the Medical world, no exposure, no manners, doesn't know how to deal/handle/talk to patients, You cannot comment or say that the pain he/she is going through is not serious, A pain is a pain whether it is a small one or a big one and they are there to take care of it and not comment on it. I had lots of other encounter the same night with other patients that ended up in a heated conversation...Something needs to be done real quick with the staffs so that people feel comfortable to visit the hospital again. Thanks for reading... Take care of your health.
