My name is Sharon (you can put your full name), and I visited St. John’s Hospital on Monday, 2025 September to consult a nephrologist. I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the treatment I received from Dr. Prashant (nephrologist) and Dr. Tanya (junior doctor), and related issues of hospital procedure, patient privacy and safety.
Below are the details of my complaints:
---
Summary of Issues
1. Appointment substituted without consent:
I had taken an appointment specifically to meet Dr. Prashant. However, the treatment/interaction was carried out by Dr. Tanya instead, without prior disclosure or my consent. This is misleading and not acceptable.
2. Poor listening & unilateral medication decisions:
When I expressed concerns / tried to explain my symptoms / situation, I felt Dr. Prashant (or on his behalf Dr. Tanya) did not hear or consider what I had to say. Medications were prescribed on what seemed like the doctor’s own judgment without properly listening to my concerns.
3. Overcrowding & Lack of privacy:
In the nephrology outpatient setting, there were three patients in the same small room, all speaking loudly. This made it impossible for the doctor to hear clearly. It also constitutes a lack of privacy and raises concerns about proper clinical communication.
4. Extra charges & unclear billing practice:
Dr. Tanya allegedly suggested that I needed to pay a higher amount to meet the supposed doctor I had booked with, and implied that the junior / substitute appointment cost less or differently. I believe this is not fair or transparent.
5. Potential discrimination / unprofessional behaviour:
I felt offended, dismissed, and possibly treated with less regard than I deserve. This kind of behaviour worsens the patient experience and could have health consequences, given this is a serious kidney-related issue.
