Dear sir/madam,
I would like to file a complaint against the content of the show "navryachi baiko" airing on your channel.
This is in reference to the storyline of the fake accusation of sexual assault against the character of saumitra by the character maya.in marathi tv shows, it is extremely rare for the writers to address issues of sexual assault and when this show did it, it was a fake accusation. Moreover, it is a fake accusation despite of substantial proof of photos of the man touching the woman inappropriately. This sends across a message to the viewers, mostly belonging to traditional and conservative households as it is, that women often falsely accuse men of sexual assault to defame them/blackmail them when this is not true in most cases. Cases of false accusations are extremely rare.
Furthermore, the character of shanaya then defends the character of saumitra to his dad by saying things like "they just showed you a picture, and you believed them" this is extremely wrong because one should always believe sexual assault victims because in so many cases, they cannot show any proof. Shanaya also says, "he's your son, do you think he can do such a thing?" this is also wrong because one should not trust the accused simply because they are someone's own son, friend, husband (Radhika trusted him blindly because he is her husband and shanaya trusted him because he seems respectful towards her and is her friend, they didn't explicitly hear the victim say that it's a fake accusation) because in terms of sexual assault, you just never know.
I understand that the writers may not have any malicious intentions but when you think about it in the backdrop of our patriarchal society and the fact that the victims are seldom believed, instead they are blamed, it is clear that this storyline is spreading the wrong message about an extremely sensitive issue.
As a viewer, i would really appreciate it if this storyline be discontinued immediately and the makers of the show issue a public apology and spread the correct message.
