Plugged in, NOT charging
Yes, like everyone else, I was dupped by the Dell (yet again) I was not happy with my desk top from a few years back and I should have not repeated the same mistake, ordering from Dell AGAIN! So, I am partially to blame! But I was in a bind and had to purchase a laptop fast and didn't have neither the time nor the resources to consider another alternative (or at least a little more educated before making a costly commitment like this)!
Anyway, the problem with this "Expensive Piece of Junk" is what plenty other people have noted: Right after I ran out of warranty, the battery (which was noit fully charging before) depleated to 85% (even plugged in) and from 85 to 50% and soon after I am looking at 29% and it is going down 1% everyday. AGAIN, please bare in mind that the computer is ALWAYS plugged in and never on without external power.
I am so concerned and don't know what to do, as I have heard the replacement batteris are mostly refurbished and do the same thing after couple of months! So, that means even if I buy another battery, there is no guarantee that is going to last me any more than couple of months. Plus with today's economy, I can not effort buying a "New" batthery and pay for installation and check run, etc.. etc.
so, please take this as a complain, from a very frustrated Dell consumer or venting and my little way of expressing my HUGE disappointment with Dell (with their hurrible INDIA -based customer support) and if nothing can be done about my problem, at least someone could be saved from making the biggest mistake of their life: Buying A Dell Notebook! or Dell of anykind!

| I am having the same problems! My Dell Inspiron 1525 was purchased in April of 2008 and now whenever I have the charger plugged in it says 0% Available (Plugged In, Not Charging) I am getting really frustrated with this. The error message said that I had an invalid AC adapter, that I needed a 60 V charger, but thats what I have. I don't know what to do to resolve this issue! |
| My 1505 also doesn't charge past 13%, tried a different battery. Says, plugged in - charging, but never holds the charge. I have used laptops for years and never had this problem. |
My battery's dead too!
I bought a 1525 - the Hard drive broke, the keyboard broke, the PCI slot broke and the motherboard broke.. and I don't use it that often.
Every time I buy an electronic product that is not Japanese I pay the price... next time I'll get a Fujitsu or Toshiba. |
| I have an inspiron 1501 for a little over a year (out of warrant) 3 days after my computer was out of warrant I begin to have ALL of the following battery issues, when I contacted DELL the insisted I buy the extended warrant in order for them to attempt to look at my system. They calim they new what was wrong and that FOR THEM its an easy fix BUT they wouldn't touch my system until I paid 456789k. I will never buy another dell. AC adapter message, plugged in not charging, BIOS locked itself out any and every problem possible I have it with this damn thing! |
| Same thing happened with my dell Inspiron. In about a month after my warranty ran out my battery stopped working properly. It says it's 100% charged, but once I unplugg it the computer dies in about 10 minutes. After a month of having that problem, now my computer won't even recognize the battery. The battery is plugged in, but it says no battery detected. Watch out if you are thinking about buying a dell. |
| bought my dell 1525 in Jan 08 and it also just started saying " battery not detected" or pluged in not charging. as soon as i bought my computer i had a BSOD and decided to fix it myself, they keys broke on it and also the mouse pad goes wackey from time to time. i got the Windows 7 RC so i dont think it was vista that was messing everything up, it was dell and there shit ass products. there crooks, it probably costs them about 100 dollars to make this piece of trash. |
| I to am having the same problem with my POS Dell Inspiron 1525, (plugged in, not charging). I've tried everything that was suggested on the internet and even spent money on an adapter that didn't fix the problem. I'm with the rest of you on buying another Dell, I won't. I've bought many Dell computers but this has been a pain since I purchased it a year ago. |
Inspiron 1525 (Intel chip) &1526 (AMD Chip) are the same. I started to see the same issue few day ago so I did what I could before calling Dell. I have updated the BIOS, installed the latest ACPI Power managment software offered by Dell and no luck, so I asked borrowed someone's Dell 1526 and replaced my battery and AC power adopter with the borrowed one and problem still exist...now I can eliminate, battery, AC Adopter, BIOS, Power Management, Windows Update...Can you think of something else? I couldn't, so I called Dell and they asked me to go to Future shop (Sister company for Best buy in Canada)...I certainly wouldn't want to deal with them because of bad experience.
I have purchased 5 servers and over 25 desktop in past two years from Dell for my work and friends...this leave a VERY bad taste in my mouth, I WILL look elsewhere next time when it comes to buy any kind of computer. |
| I am having the same issue with my daughters Dell Inspiron 1720. 0% available ( plugged in, not charging) message. I have tried shut down, removing battery, holding down power but...etc. Nothing works. |
| From what I've read replacing the motherboard for around $400 is the solution but why do that when you can purchase a new one for $500, doesn't make any sense. Dell should recall these! |
Hello All Guys .
Last year march 2008 I have purchased the Inspiron 1525 and suddenly today I found that batter is not detected and Batter Plugged in but not charging. I tried all tricks e.g. BIOS update change of battery also ( my friend has same computer) and Dell is asking for huge amount for support .
I do not know how to handle this situation . I never expected such poor response . |
Hello Friends, Please add me too !! I have DELL inspiron 1525 bought in April 2008. I am facing same problem, battery not detected !! DELL support asked me to pay 16, 500 INR to extend warranty and said can help only after that. Please co-ordinate and take an legal action against DELL for such faulty product. I am ready to pay fund for legal action. Please plan something. They are making us fool.
If possible provide me consumer office address in Pune.
Thank you,

| I too have had so many problems with my dell I purchased in Feb. of 2008. It crashed a month after I had it and now I'm having problems with the battery. I do NOT think it is a coincedence that so many are having problems with their computers and they all have close to the same purchase date!! I qould never ever recomend Dell to anyone!!! They have the WORST customer service one time I had an agent SCREAM at me over the phone after i had been on hold for 4 hours and hung up on twice!!! A lawsuit would be a wonderful idea!! |
I also purchased Dell Inspiron 1525 and it is now 1 year and 5 month.. ia m running out of warranty and I am having the same issue.. The system first said, bettery is not charging, then it says, no battery found.. i am really frustrated. I don know if I buy a new battery.. They Sucks.. Really bad support.
Please someone help me.. |
| same..problem here, wiht inspiron 1525. First it started wiht plugged in, not charging. then i pulugges batter out then plugged in again, problem was rectified. but after just one week, i faced a bigger prob. OS in not detecting the battery at all. whenever i boot up my laptop it gives a warning that battery not detected and ask to press f1 to continue. my laptop is hardly 2 yr old. i purchased it in march 2007. many of my frnd hav hp n compaq and they are running vry fine. though some are more than 3 yr older. |
| Guess what...1525 plugged in and not charging. Laptop is out of warranty and we are stuck with it being plugged in to the mains - not very portable. I am very dissapointed with De'' qulaity and support. |
Everyone seems to be having a problem with Dell about this issue... but, it's not Dell with the issue.. My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv7-1130us Entertainment Notebook PC .. and I'm having the exact same issue.. "Plugged in, not charging" I've had my laptop for 11months.
I remove my battery while the computer is plugged in, and then put the battery back in, and then the battery icon starts moving, like it's charging, and says "97% available (plugged in, charging)" .. then within a minute later, the icon stops moving and says, "0% available (plugged in, not charging)" |
Hey guys..
I have a dell inspiron 1501 i i have the same problem "Plugged in, not charging"
But ony in windows vista or windows 7, with windows xp its working perfectly
I think its a software problem |
| The problems faced by the rest is like Deja vu . Same problem . I purchased Dell inspiron 1525 in Aug 2008 and now the bty is showing not charging . The dell customer service told me that they give only 300 days warranty on the battery and hence I will have to replace the battery and to think I was stupid enough to buy a nine cell battery paying extra to give me more off power support. |
| Dell 1526, ran into the same problem with the battery not charging when plugged-in and every time I start it up it say something about not recognizing the AC Adapter. Laptop just over a year old. Looks like Dell is losing lots of customers unless they have a solution for this quickly. |
