Plugged in, NOT charging
Yes, like everyone else, I was dupped by the Dell (yet again) I was not happy with my desk top from a few years back and I should have not repeated the same mistake, ordering from Dell AGAIN! So, I am partially to blame! But I was in a bind and had to purchase a laptop fast and didn't have neither the time nor the resources to consider another alternative (or at least a little more educated before making a costly commitment like this)!
Anyway, the problem with this "Expensive Piece of Junk" is what plenty other people have noted: Right after I ran out of warranty, the battery (which was noit fully charging before) depleated to 85% (even plugged in) and from 85 to 50% and soon after I am looking at 29% and it is going down 1% everyday. AGAIN, please bare in mind that the computer is ALWAYS plugged in and never on without external power.
I am so concerned and don't know what to do, as I have heard the replacement batteris are mostly refurbished and do the same thing after couple of months! So, that means even if I buy another battery, there is no guarantee that is going to last me any more than couple of months. Plus with today's economy, I can not effort buying a "New" batthery and pay for installation and check run, etc.. etc.
so, please take this as a complain, from a very frustrated Dell consumer or venting and my little way of expressing my HUGE disappointment with Dell (with their hurrible INDIA -based customer support) and if nothing can be done about my problem, at least someone could be saved from making the biggest mistake of their life: Buying A Dell Notebook! or Dell of anykind!

waiting for ur replies... |
Sorry to point out to you that as with any device from any manufacturer, be it a cell phone or computer, carries with it a one year warranty on the battery regardless of who you purchased the system from. I am typing this on an Inspiron 1525 that is a little over a year old and have no issues with the battery as of yet. But I am fully aware that if I do, I am responsible for purchasing a replacement battery. You have to go into any purchase of any item with a battery with the understanding that the battery may go out and if you do have issues, as you stated you did with yours, within warranty, then you get it replaced with the refurbished battery that is provided per your warranty.
So, I suggest you stop wasting your time by posting things on web sites that were fully in your control, and just go purchase a replacement battery.
By the way, if the system is ALWAYS plugged in as you state it is, then why does it make any difference about your battery life at this time?? |
I was having the same problem. I had the charger from my old Latitude 610. I plugged it in and it started charging. I remember a pop-up a while back that said my charger was not sufficient to maintain optimal performance. I am wondering if the little "Pee Wee Herman" charger isnt degrading amps over time. Origional one put out 3.34 Amps, 610 one puts out 4.62 Amps.
Working like a charm now! I hope this helpd you guys! |
| AFTER SO MANY COMMENTS, ANYONE READING THESE MUST NEVER MAKE A BLUNDER SO AS TO BUY A LAPTOP FROM DELL REGARDLESS ITS LOW COST ... A FRUSTRATED DELL USER |
I buy, sell, and repair laptops and Dell (in particular 1525) has a problem with the adapter soldered onto the motherboard and requires replacing. Unfortunately they always go bad after 12 months when most warranty's are expired. The reason blowing, tapping, and other various tricks work is because you are actually fixing the short. Bottom-line, you need to call Dell and have them replace the motherboard. DO NOT buy a motherboard yourself because it most likely will develop the same problem.
If you do NOT have any Warranty left then call Dell and ask to speak to the product supervisor for laptops. Tell them that you are aware they have sold you a product with a known defect and firmly insist they repair it. I've been successful in getting all mine repaired as long even with expired warranty. |
| Also, I might add that since I repair units, Dell has the most problems and I actually have less service issues with HP/Compaq. Now that's just in the past 24 months. Prior years Dell was by far the best, but unfortunately in the past 24 months they have become the biggest pile of junk. |
i have problem in battery backup of my lap top it is getting restart time to time
please help me |
I also have an Espirion 1525 with a battery problem. I am also getting the reading "plugged in. Not charging. I switched batteries with my daughters 1525, and it continued to do the same thing. I'm going to do as Jimmy Dean suggested and call Dell about their ongoing motherboard problem.
I will post when I get an answer. |
| Same problem here with my Dell 1525! |
5% available "Plugged in, Not Chargning".
Inspiron 1525.
DO NOT GO FOR DELL..
DELL IS LIKE HELL |
Same problem as many others, I have bought DELL for nearly 8 years but no more My newest Laptop is only 6 weeks old, New HDD, New Memory, new keyboard and now the battery has gone!!!
Complete junk, rubbish case leaves finger prints and smudges HP for me from now on. I am sick of paying premium rates to phone off shore pigeon English script readers making me undertake endless stupid tests when my laptop is a Norwegian blue parrot. |
| Have exact same problem with 1501 - Ive always purchased DELL - NO MORE - MY FAITH IS CRUSHED! Have had several problems for over a year, DONT BUY A DELL!!! They have created monsters since 2007 |
| yeppers. i've been a dell customer for over a decade, but not anymore with my most recent dell laptop purchase and inspiron 15". dell has gone downhill and it's time we all took our purchasing power somewhere else. even if dell gets their act together - they're persona non grata in my book. once you rip me off with your excuse laden laptop issues - that's it for me. bye bye dell. oh and btw, i will be purchasing a couple more pc's in the next year and wellll, they won't be dell's anymore. hope you fix your dorkups quickly because there are a lot of ticked off customers that are going to send you into bankruptcy soon enough. but thennn, you asked for it with your inferior quality so i guess you reap what you sow. |
I have an latitude d531, and it is not reconising the battery at all. it is only 14 months old.
the keys have gonne loose in the keyboard and the bluetooth has stoped working.
You make your own conclusions, but i still have an old toshiba since 2004 and all is working in there.
What a rip-off and disgrace. |
| im having the same as others... what dis type of problems happens with the adapters after the expiry date of the warrenty... do they make the adapters that work only for 14 months to 15 months im just frustrate with my Dell Inspiration 1525 |
I have had my lap top 2 years. I have in the past 5 months replaced my Dell Insirion 1525 hard drive twice! Now after paying 166.00 US dollars for a new battery since it wasn't the new adapter I purchased 4 weeks ago, and it isn't charging! I'm so sick of this!
Of course when I was having issues with 2 computers crashing within weeks of each other and loosing over 3000 pictures, I have had it and was requested that I purchase a warrantly that would have me allow me 4 incidentail calls in 12months???!!! |
Just some time after my warranty cover was over, in past 1month, my Inspiron 1525 battery suddenly strtd discharging very fast, now the adpater is also malfunctioning and with any adapter, even new ones, the battery does not charge beyond 15 %. After that the std message is plugged in not charging.
I think DELL should mention that it functions as a laptop only for an year and then it becomes a desk top. So much for Dell revolution. |
| I was fan of Dell at very first when I bought latest model of Inspiron 1525. Right Now it hits my pocket regarding battery issues. I fired a consumer court case against Dell. its when I was under warranty. but company makes fool and dealers also. Company supports told me that we cant do more becasue of your warranty period is over. and I have invoice dated before 11th month from dealer. |
| I also purchased Dell Inspiron 1525 and it is now 1 year and 1 month.. So just after 1 year i.e after expiry of warranty I am having the same issue. The system first showed, battery is not charging, then few time later, no battery found. Although it shows that battery is 75% charged in battery meter, still without A/C adapter system doesnt start from battery, so it is as good as not having battery. On asking Dell they says Warranty has expired and you have to renew. When I agreed to renew they says batteries once used are not covered under warranty, i am really frustrated. I don know if I buy a new battery, or throw the old one or run system on a/c adapter. They Sucks yaar. As far as I have experienced from various feedbacks, the Li-ion batteries are very much ok, i feel, because it shows 75% power remaining. May be the problem is in the Battery circuit which has been such designed that just after 1 year of use the timer forces the circuit to break and thus batteries gets disconnected from laptop and cannot provide power. After prolonged non use its power & non charging ultimately gets damaged. So no one is there to look after the batteries once the circuit breaks. Not even Dell support, Such assholes |
