[Resolved]  Cold Drink — Charges more then MRP

Address:Thane, Maharashtra

In Mumbra city (Dist.Thane) all the dealers of cold drinks of all brands charge Rs.2-3 extra then MRP as referegeration(cooling) charges and sell the cold drinks without bill. When we ask for bill they say, that the charges will be higher for cold bottle and very rudely say that"lena hai to lijiye varna doosri dukaan dekhiye".

Looking at the old complaints on the same issue listed on the site, i think this is a very common complaint from the consumers.I request you to please provide us a solution to this so that our hard earned money can be saved from loot by such dealers.

all cold drink companies — not showing correct price

The prices of cold drinks are written on the bottles. But it is not clear that it includes colding charge or not.Due to this the shopkeepers charge the colding charge extra like Rs 2 or Rs 3 by saying that the price fixed on bottle is before colding.so companies should clearly write Whether it is including or excluding colding charges and if it is excluding colding charges, fix a universal colding charges so that the customers should not fight daily with the local vendors.

All soft drinks in retail shops — Charge over MRP (claims that charge is for cooling the product)

Most of the retailers are charging extra money for cooling the soft drinks that they sell.
It is over the MRP. The practice is more aggressive in areas like railway stations and bus stands. Request the Soft Drink manufacturers and the concerned authorities to look after this

Cold Drink — Cooling Charges

I was buying a mango pulp drink at Sanpada Station complex, Highway side, Navi mumbai. Shopkeeper asked me for Rs.2 cooling charges it was more than MRP, when i refused they argued with me and told me if you want buy it or leave it.
But i can tell a case where they can't, if they are selling ice-creams they can not charge for cooling,
so why cold drinks?
Please make a law and implement it.
Cooling charges a common scenario and issue, but nobody seems to be interested to solve it, not even govt.
Making law is easy but implementaion has to be done.
next time when u buy a cold drink, take a sip and pay the vendor MRP as printed on the bottle. Then if the vendor asks for more money for cooling just refuse pay no attention and challenge him to do what he wants. I m sure he can do nothing. If he argues, ask him for bill/receipt with cooling charge. i m sure he will have no answer bcoz wrong seller fear consumer courts...

Is your soft drink vendor taking you for a cool ride?
Simit Bhagat | TNN (Times of India - 8th May 2010)

Mumbai: How many times have you shelled out more than the MRP on a bottle of soft drink or milk as “cooling’’ charges? Well, if the answer is several times, you can take a cue from residents of Mumbai and Thane, who have lodged a complaint with the state legal metrology department (LMD) against shopkeepers who take consumers for a ride.
Going by the data compiled by the LMD, between April 2009 and March 2010, 53 cases were slapped on shopkeepers, who were found charging more than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on soft drink bottles. The department has also booked another 96 of them for “fleecing’’ people buying milk bottles and cartons.
The accused shopkeepers were found violating the Standards of Weights and Measures Rules, 1987. Under the rules, it is an offence to sell a packaged commodity at a rate higher than its MRP and removing any such information or label from the packet. However, the rule does not apply to packaged products sold at restaurants, where the product is served and hence attracts, service charges.
Ankush Dhanvijay, controller of LMD, says, “Many shopkeepers ask consumers to pay extra on cold drink bottles as cooling charges. But it is an offence to sell a packaged commodity, including cold drinks and milk bottles, at a price higher than their MRPs. As many people are not aware of the rules, the shopkeepers exploit them.’’

Cold Drinks — Cold drinks rates

Every shops in Hyderabad is taking more rates of cold drinks (like Pepsi or Coca-Cola) than its MRP, for example if the MRP is Rs.8 they are talking Rs.10 or 11 or 12. If we ask why you are talking more than MRP than they sometimes say extra cooling charge and they even say, its our rate, if you want to take, take it or leave it ! This is not only for cold drinks, they also do this on other products also.
So if anything can be done please do it as soon as possible.
