I guess there is a lack of information which is causing the frustration among a lot of people here. The reason is because some LIC agents miss to explain things like how to track the market performance.
The first thing that is more important than the amount of money invested is actually the number o[censored]nits that were purchased with that amount. For eg: lets say you invested 50000.
Next you need to know how many units were purchased with that amount which would be shown in your policy. Lets say there were 5000 units that were purchased. What this means is that your unit price was Rs.10.
Next you need to know what kind of plan you chose... was it Bond, Secured, Balanced or Growth ? Next you need to know what is the current value of a unit which can be found in http://licindia.com/plan_navs.htm.
Lets say the current value is Rs.12, then it means that your investment is now worth 60000.

So more than the amount, its the unit price thats important which you need to verify by looking at your policy.
