[Resolved] Reader's Digest — Misleading Consumers
I am a regular subscriber of the magazine Readers Digest. Suddenly I was lured into a false lottery and sweepstake contest by the publisher. As the amount ran into crores I fell into their trap. The publisher started sending different contest material with an offer to buy one or more of their materials. Initially I purchased some reading materials but at a later stage I observed that it was a publisher's unique idea to push sale items and do buisness. I ultimately stopped buying any of their offered materials. Then once a reading material was forcefully send to me though I had not ordered. It was cleverly delivered by post as if a part of the contest material though the fact was I was eliminated from the contest long back with my refual of puchasing any material. Naturally I refused to pay a high amount. As I have not ordered the question do not arise to pay high postal charges to send back the material to the publisher. If necessary the publisher could have sent his representative to collect back the material. Instead they are still deceiving me as if heavy prize money is awaiting if I pay the amount of the material. I want to warn each and every consumer not to fall into such trap of earning frivolous money under the guise of fake contest. Through consumer forum I would like to tell the publisher not to deceive people and then flex muscle. Was this information helpful?

Yes, I also cheated by them. They will send mails. to click playing cards. When clicked, ny one it will show to go few steps. Then car pictures will appear. If any one key is clicked it will go to highset amount of acr to be won. Finally they offcer, books at most discounted prize in order to get eligibility to get prizes. The offered books at highest cost will be of no use. In order to push sales, they adopt cheap rated measures. useless Amangement with cheating motivation with technolocy measures.
Anyone replying to the prize mails will have to buy books which are useless. The prize letters will have one line mentioned in somewhere in the pile of pages received. Once you reply to any of the letters you will get a gift of some useless object and a book. You will continue to receive these kind of gifts for many months and there will be follow up letter which says you have to pay the due amount. The money will gradually raise and they will respond with harsh followup letters if you don't pay the amount. In the end you will end up paying a huge sum of money over months and you will know that you will never get the lakhs or cars
Never fall for readers digest and I suggest you go for better magazines with good standards.
In my experience Reader digest follows a third rate business tactics which is not even followed by telemarketers.
