[Resolved]  Shri Ram General Insurance Company — Cancellation of policy after partial payment of claim

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am lodging this complaint on behalf of my mother Mrs Krishna Devi as she doesn't understand English.

She got her Maruti Alto car (#UP-32 CH-6913) insured by Shri Ram General Insurance Company on 07/06/2010. The policy number is 108028/31/11/004013. And period of insurance is 07/06/2010 to 06/06/2011.

On the morning of 11/06/2010 this car met with accident as it got hit from rear by an unidentified bus. I have lodged a FIR also on the same day.

It was a cashless claim, but still the insurer forced us to pay all the charges by saying that paper work will take long time so as soon as this paper work finishes they will pay that amount back. Trusting on the insured insured (Mrs Krishna Devi) paid the amount. All the documents asked by the insurer were provided to them.

When insured paid the amount, insurer refused to pay any single penny and put the claim in "No Claim" category. It took them 4-5 months to decide that. Insurer's agents kept harassing the insured as well as other family members almost every week even late night by asking unnecessary personal questions which were nowhere related to the claim.

After having chained email conversation and face to face arguments they paid the partial claim amount. We have claimed for INR 81,000 + medical and other expenses. Insurer paid only INR 58544.

When we asked the company repeatedly that why this amount is so less, what deduction they have made and what are components, breakup and calculation; both in email as well as in person, the Shri Ram General Insurance Company refused to give any details.Shri Ram General Insurance Company agent used abusive language when we forced him to provide details. And up to height of the harassment the insurer had sent a letter that the Insurance policy has been cancelled (midterm) effective from 20/12/2010 without any reason.
