[Resolved]  Tata Sky — Wrongfully charging customer for their fault

I have been a Tatasky DTH subsciber for over three years now. Whein moved to Hyderabad from Mumbai, I had called the call centre for installation of the dish on the terrace of my building, in 2008. During installation, the technician was informed to fix the dish alongwith other existing dishes on the higher location in the terrace as it was within easy reach should anyone wishes to damage the dish. The person did not listen to it and fixed it on the wall of the terrace. Later on I lost signals and on checking, I found that the dish was damaged as I had suspected it may earlier. I called up their helpdesk and explained the nature of the problem. Though it was rectified within reasonable time, I was charged for the technicians visit which was actually not required if the earlier technician had heeded my suggestion during installation. I had been regularly following up with their call centre on this matter and have been only given false assurances by people who responded to my calls but no resolution till date.
It seems that Tatasky or their employees have started to sense that they do not need any further business and have therefore become completely insensitive to customer requirements, oblivious of the fact that there are multiple other service providers with identical, if not better technology and customer interface, to choose from.

I wish to forewarn all unsuspecting prospective customers of Tatasky DTH to be careful before they proceed with their selection of Tatasky and suggest that they relook into their options before they take a decision, especially in current context as Tatasky is trying to armtwist me into paying for their technicians mistake, knowing very well that important programmes such as IPL is currently being aired. This is quite unethical as you may also view as and should be taken view of very seriously indeed.

There must have been a proper angle required for receiving signal receptions hence at the time of installation the First technician must have mounted the dish on the wall. Terrace being a open place the chances of it being damaged are equal. However, if you wish that the dish be installed only on the terrace you can be rigid asking him to install it only higher location in the terrace. At that time it will be important to check whether you are able to receive signals and all channels if not then it has to be installed as per the technician. Technician visit is always charged and this is the universal phenomenon followed by each and every dish provider in every industry. Also the problem was rectified within reasonable time as you have mentioned hence you could always get the problem resolved or atleast looked into what can be done best by addressing it to the Customer Care. Normal troubleshooting steps are also taken through on call but the one that you were facing required a tech visit to look into the issue.
