Kent RO — Bad plastic smell coming from water storage tank of Kent RO product

I bought this product bearing number KR[protected], less than two years back. Recently the water started smelling and tasting horrible. On calling the Kent engineer he told me that the water storage plastic quality was bad and the smell and horrible taste was because of this bad plastic. What shocks me is that this is the quality being provided by Kent, especially for products through which we consume water. When i asked him to replace it, he said that i need to pay Rs. 2400/- and the company refuses to replace free of cost since the warranty is only for a year. I find it extremely unfair that we consumers are sold sub standard products at high cost ( i bought it for Rs. 19, 000/- ) and then the company refuses its responsibility in providing long lasting quality. Every year we are made to shell out at least Rs. 3000-Rs. 4000/- to purchase new filters etc.. None of this is explained at the time of purchase.
