Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation — unjustified collection of ticket penalty fine

Travelling from Chandni Chowk Station to Dum Dum Station.

I had boarded the Metro from Chandni Chowk and got down at Dum Dum station, at around 3.00 pm. I was using the Multi Ride metro card with sufficient balance ( Card No.[protected] which I successfully punched while boarding the train at Chandni Chowk.

When I got down at Dum Dum Metro, while exiting, I tried punching the card but due to some reason it did not accept. After a few unsuccessful tries, I brought it to the attention of the ticket officer
at the gate.

The gate officer Mr. M. K Sinha, came over and immediately booked me for travelling ticketless, wherein I was compelled to pay a fine of Rs. 275/- under "travelling without ticket". I tried reasoning with him so that he checks my card regarding balance, but he was adamant and forced me to pay the fine.

After exiting, I checked my ticket balance at the counters, and found that sufficient balance still remained.

I went back to him seeking a clarification but he was adamant and told me that once an offence is booked he cant do anything and I may do whatever I feel right.

Later while coming out of the Metro station, I came to know from few other metro officers there that Mr. Sinha is a nuisance creator and often does like this, and has a do not care attitude.

I have been using the Kolkata Metro from the last few years and have never faced a situation like this.

My travel card as above and the CCTV footage during the incident period along with attached photos may be referred to in this context.
