[Resolved]  Bangalore City Police — Harassment and bribe demand by Bangalore City beat police

Apologies upfront for not providing my name and other details.

I was shocked by the incident which happened on 29 April 2023.

Two beat cops ring my door bell and say they have received complaint from a dunzo delivery guy that we called the delivery guy inside our home and asked him to do illegal things.

I politely asked them to come inside and speak. They walked inside and said complaint has been lodged by a dunzo delivery guy. I told him why would we call a dunzo delivery guy inside our home. He said I don't know all that and said he wants to check my home.

I asked him to go ahead and he checked all my home. My friend who was using the washroom was also dragged out.

When they didn't find anything they started abusing and threatening us saying we will spoil your career considering that you are a doctor and we will drag you to police station and court.

I told him sir on what basis are you saying this. He then started abusing by saying speak in kannada and not in English.

He then told there is something to hide because you didn't open the door immediately. I told him sir I was asleep and I have a dog with me and I have to put him in his room because he was barking loudly.
The cop then tells me you are lying and starts again threatening me.

Considering that the issue was escalating I called the corporator of our area whom I happen to know. He first tells don't call him.. cut the call. Then he snatched my phone and before I could say anything he kept telling him lies and when the corporator asks for the name he mentions only as Mr Nagaraj and does not tell his surname.

Then he asks me did you record the call? I said no.. why should I record the call. He then instructs the constable to take my phone and lock it.

After that he said you live in a respectable locality and I will create a scene and drag you to the police station.

He then asks the constable to get my phone unlocked by me and to see for WhatsApp messages and photos

I opened the phone and handed it to them and again they could not find anything.

Finally he asks me how much money you have. I told him I don't have any money in cash and can pay my online transaction. He asks me repeatedly how much can you pay? And he says he wants it in cash only.

I told him I don't have cash but can withdraw from the atm.
He told me to go ahead and draw the money from the atm and they will follow me. I asked them how much should I pay.. and he said 5 k. I withdraw the money from atm and give it to them.

Then he says go back to your home now.

This has shook me totally and just because a person is wearing khakhi uniform it doesn't entitle him to abuse and harrass the people.

I want to change my home now considering what else these guys will do.
Request you to kindly look into the matter and take measures so that faith in our Bangalore police is restored.
