For some reason, opd is completely closed on sundays, and despite the need for a general pediatrician consultation for my baby (22months old), had to go to the emergency because there is no other option.
I related the concerns and the doctor advised blood test and iv medication (Paracetamol to start with) for the baby. The team kept us waiting, to get additional staff, and the staff (Male & female nurses) confirmed that they know how to handle kids. After excessive pain to the baby, trying to get the iv connected, failing to find the nerve, blood loss for the baby, trying with another cannula, yet failing again, and not able to even draw the blood for the blood test, they gave up.
At this point, they said they will call a pediatrician, and due to the baby's high fever, asked to give her calpol, i was already carrying the calpol, but the attendant doctor said that is not as good, and insisted on giving from the hospital for which of course i had to pay. After waiting for 1 hour (Where i had to really take a lot of efforts in pacifying my baby), they called a pediatrician, who asked to get a chest x-ray. We got that done in the hospital, and based on the x-ray she said that she is starting oral medications for the kid.
In the er, they charge rs.1000/ only for using er services, and also charged us additionally for the cannula & other related expenses (Although they couldn't fix the cannula anyway!!) then, despite us wanting the x ray report, they said there is an additional charge and time for the report!!! This is the most shocking and new thing i have heard, that to get the report you need to pay over and above what you already paid for the test! Ultimately, we had to leave with the kid being in so much distress, and the doctor giving one medicine.
