Chitra and Prasanna Venkatesh, residents of Puducherry, orchestrated the online scam through the website www. mudhaliyarmarriages. com. A press release from the CCB said that Chitra posing as Akila, seeking a groom, sent text messages to some young men stating that she got their contact numbers on the matrimony website. After a series of text messages, she asked to join the site to know more about her. The website charged a registration fee of Rs.2, 000. One of the victims, T.Vijay (29), complained to police after he started receiving text messages from an unknown number. Five young men were cheated using the same ploy, the release said. The accused have been booked under the IT Amendment Act (2008) and remanded to custody.
