Address: Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Dr. Ganapathy Ramanan, Oncologist at Apollo Speciality Hospital, Chennai has absolutely no skills in treating cancer patients. He has no idea of what he is doing. Its a waste of time and money. I almost lost my mother with his treatment and with God's grace Dr. Subramanian of V S Hospitals, Chennai treated her and she is fine now. I am not Dr. Ramanan's employee, nor am I related to him or his old friend. So, This is an unbiased opinion. I was a caregiver for my Brother-in-law when he was diagnosed with Lymphoma in Apollo in 2008. Dr. Ramanan is an extraordinarily warm person and a very accomplished oncologist. Even In Tata Memorial hospital in Mumbai, they speak very highly of him. I have very fond memories of my interactions with him even though it has been over seven years since then. Unfortunately my brother-in-law's condition deteriorated rapidly and he passed away but that is the nature of the beast called Lymphoma. It is an aggressive disease and Dr Ramanan naturally liked to treat it aggressively. He did take the family into confidence and used to make us all feel like he was our friend and I still consider him that way. He doesnt like to scare the patient or the family unduly and so, may not mention everything immediately. But I did know that He had long meeting s and conferences with colleagues about each patient. And he cares. A lot. He is research minded and I have seldom come across Indians who use words so carefully. I have tremendous respect for him and I agree wit him that it is unfortunate that the first item that comes up when you Google Dr Ramanan is this one person's opinion.
I am grateful that I came across this man called Dr. Ramanan and have very fond memories of him as a doctor and mostly as a human being - Bhaskar ([protected]@gmail.com)
This review about Dr Ramanan is biased. He is a well known, very experienced and kind doctor. He is not money minded. He worked at Cancer Institute for 20 years, treating thousands of poor patients while getting a very small salary. If he wanted money, he could have joined private practise long ago. A request to the person who is maligning Dr Raman, please post your full name and contact number, also you patients hospital details. You could be some one who is jealous of his professional success and want to ruin his name by tarnishing his image. How can we trust your assertions when you choose to be anonymous.
I am telling you from my personal experience with Mr.Ramanan. He is the worst Doctor for Oncology. He does not have a heart nor mental capacity. He is a typical Brahmin and all other Brahmin's will support him in this blog. He is an arrogant person. Yes, he takes money and when we ask details on his treatment, he says you ask too many questions. Caregivers are concerned about their relative and would like to know if the treatment is the best. Please spare me from saying he is the god and he saved your life. He never intended to save my relative life. He gave the patient wrong treatment from the beginning and she passed away. He is the worst Doctor I have met so far. I suggest that people go to other Doctor's. Like an earlier comment, I agree about the other Doctor Mahajan, he does not know anything either. These guys see patients like toys they don't have any empathy. Only person worthwhile in the MCCF is Dr. Ayyappan a truly compassionate Doctor. Dr.Ayyappan cares about his patient deeply. He is not worried about money. If you go to Apollo or Kumaran please only see Dr. Ayyappan for surgical oncology take suggestions elsewhere about further treatment . Please do not go to Mr. Ramanan, he will literally take life from your dear ones. He has no compassion nor empathy. He is Lucifer in the flesh. Please run away from this person as far as possible. All the positive comments in this blog I suspect is a either from Mr. Ramanan or his staff or his Brahmin friends. I like that at least this blog is allowing people to post their concerns and helps others concerned to make better decision.

Dear Admin of this blog - Please do not delete this post. I have provided these details based on my personal experience with Mr.Ramanan when he gave chemo drugs to my relative. I just want other people to know about this guy so they can make good choice. In India Cancer care is very expensive and very traumatic for families who deal with this and the difference is only made by treatment given and the Doctor. Mr. Ramanan failed and I dont want others to suffer the same as I did with him.
He is a Doctor par excellence! So soft spoken, careful but gives all care to a patient at ever instance...Have never seen him being harsh not only with paients but with any one from medical fraternity..He patiently listens and answers to quary of questions convincingly...Cancer is a killer disease...we all know...and as someone said here, Doctors are also human beings like us and one has to trust them for we dont know much about what we have. No doctor is a scanning maching to tell you what is happening in the body every now and then...Just as we surrender to God for things beyond our control so also we repose faith in doctors who we connect with. It is a general feeling that we are only entitled to choose a doctor but do remember a doctor also has the choice to choose his patients if the patients have no trust in them. We dont curse someone when our beloved ones are lost, albeit of different reasons ...why curse someone who takes the biggest risk of saving you from such a serious disease...be kind to all...May God protect Dr.Ramanan and likes of him all the time...

Chennai patient is a psychopathic . He is defaming a particular cast. He seems like a piece of scum to me. We dont go to a doctor because of his caste. Next time if you are in an emergency and there is only a brahmin doctor to save you, please dont get treated. You have a personal problem with Dr Ramanan. You are a disgruntled former employee who did fraud and was thrown out. Do something useful you, stop defaming a good and caring doctor. Why are you scared, give your name, address and phone number publicly. Ye, remain with your caste friends only, dont ever come near other caste people.
My wife was treated 3 years back for breast cancer. she was 2/3 stage. Dr.Ramanan prescribed 6 intensive chemo since her age was 38 that time. he modified dosage & medicine as per requirement since couple of times the WBC count went down and she got fever. he was always prompt and answered every question asked by patient and myself who was the caretaker. he was prompt in attending patient at emergency when we get admitted due to side effects of chemo and treats well. during stay at hospital he always promptly visit the patient and checks the progress and suggests the treatment. My wife is extremely happy about his soft spoken /friendly language and smile face. everytime when we get admitted in hospital my wife waits for him and upon visit she felt relaxed that Dr.Ramanan visited and instructed the treatment now I will be alright. he was able to create that impression to patients. now wife is doing good.

in the same Apollo specialty hospital she faced bad experience with Dr.Selvi, breast surgeon and Dr.Rathnadevi, Radiologist. Dr.Selvi always keep her face seriuos and never responds to any doubts/questions from patients. Dr.Rathnadevi engages the junior doctor for treatment and never sees a patient once. she not even bothered to check my wife when she was brought to hospital for serious infection in the skin during the radio treatment. I was annoyed and sent mail to their chairman complaining the attitude of Dr.Rathnadevi and her money mind ( she charged consultation fee of Rs.17k without even seeing patient once)
Looks like some vested commercial interests trying their best to malign name of a good doctor - Ramanan. I have heard horror stories even in Adyar institute let alone other commercial hospitals where patients are neglected or try their best to mint money out of sufferings of Cancer patients. Planting fake stories in internet is not going do these medical vendors any good as people go to a doctor via word by mouth references and social/personal recommendations. So Dr. Ramanan's reputation is intact in society via the vast number of patients who have been cured from cancer due to his efforts and are now spreading his name as well as cancer awareness throughout the society. Also there are innumerable oncologist who were his students in Cancer institute will vouch for his name.

FYI, I am a perfectly cured patient who underwent chemo for 6 months under Dr. Ramanan. Agreed - Chemotheraphy is a living hell for patients but it was made bearable due to care and thoughtfulness of Dr. Ramanan and how he manages his team giving hope and positive energy to patients. I spent my 6 months of treatment as a life experience where you learn to deal challenges using your will power. But there are weak human beings who cannot go through such pains and challenges in life and try to blame whatever comes in their mind without a second thought. Those who are complaining in random should know - blaming somebody for your misfortune is not going to relieve you of your mistakes.. for all you know you may be the one who had neglected your mother's till terminal stage and blaming somebody else to hide it... But remember what you speak of others will return back to you and that is how the circle of life works.

People who posted their opinion here have nothing against Ramanan on a personal level, they posted negative comments because of what he did to them. So the cycle you mentioned has already worked. One who is getting it back is Dr.Ramanan. Cancer treatment is complicated, some people achieve success or failure. No one is complaining here because the treatment failed, they are complaining because the way they were handled without access to exact information on how the treatment is proceeding. Hope you get the point and do not blame victims.

Patients and caretakers need to be fully informed about their condition is what they demand.

Hope you understand.

Happy to know you are seeing success.

Thanks
I was treated by Dr. Ramanan, Dr. Vikas and his team for cancer in the colon three years back. Excellent team work; they discuss on the illness of each of their patient periodically; give proper treatment; treat the patient as one of their family members; I am 73 now in good health. I can keep myself busy right from 5.30 am till 8 pm. It is all thanks to the treatment of Dr. Ramanan & Dr. Vikas. In fact, two of my friends Sri M. Raman IAS ( retd) and Sri M. Swamy, ( ex MLA ) who were treated by Sri Ramanan are also keeping good health . My sister who is presently undergoing treatment under his guidance is recovering fast. It is not proper to write bad about his qualification, knowledge, etc. He knows the subject very well and explain the details of illness to the patient meticulously. Finally, Dr. Ramanan and his team members are NOT at all money minded.

I am shocked that such posts have not been deleted. It is very unfair that a doctor's reputation could be sullied in such a manner. My brother was treated by Dr.Ramanan and we have not seen anyone more dedicated to his patients. Please do not believe such damaging posts.
If chemo is working for a patient, this doc is the best. But if chemo is not working for a patient, this doc is the worst since he doesn't reveal the facts with patients family and work like a machine.
I am a relative of one of his patients who happens to be a doctor. He is a amazing physician and person .To all haters there I am sorry you lost your love ones due to this dreadful disease but you should understand cancer is not a easy disease to tackle and it is very unstable and unpredictable course. Honestly speaking how many of you people will accept palliative care without any other treatment for a metastatic stage 4 disease straight away and if your doctor suggestes this you are still gonna come to this site and still post a complain .It is wrong to went out your frustration and sorrow in one person who has actually helped you. If you people have doubts on his method of treatment feel free to refer and standerd book on oncology and chemotherapy and then post about his professional efficacy and medical knowledge.
