External Hard Disk — External Hard Disk not being accessed via USB

I bought external hard disk WD1600E1MS-00 SERIAL NO. WXE708A21427 It worked fine for the last few days say 10-15. Now on the same Machine with Windows XP OS, it shows on the Task Bar as connected but it does not show in the My Computer as Removeable Disk Drive. Whereas on the same port, other Pen Drives as well as other external hard disk drive work fine. We tested this at computer computers also and we found the same problem. The same hard disk when checked thru My Computer ->Properties ->Advanced ->Hardware->Device Manager ->Hard Disks

It shows the WD Hard Disk in that list along with the Main Hard Disk. It is also shown in the Windows Task Bar but to surprise, it does not show in the My Computer ->Removeable Drives

We have tried to scan for hardware changes but to no use. We tried to uninstall and plug it again ->It gives the same behaviour

It contains lot of data. Kindly assist.
