[Resolved]  Fortis Healthcare, Mohali — Negligence of Doctors

Address:SAS Nagar, Punjab

Horrendous experience at Fortis, Mohali
I had the most unfortunate experience of getting my aunt (Tayiji) Mrs. Krishna Dewan (ID: 286994)operated at Fortis for Sigmoid Diverticuloses coupled with Colovesical Fistula under Dr. J.D. Wig and Dr. A.S. Bawa. She was admitted on 4/2/11 in Fortis Hospital, Mohali. At the time of admission, the counsellor ( Ms. Zubi) had in consultation with Dr. J.D. Wigtold us that the total cost of surgery will be around Rs. 1.75 Lakh and she will require to stay in hospital for 4-5 days. She was operated on 5/2/11. After the operation, a leak was detected in her surgery (left due to the negligence of the operating doctor) as a result of which she developed Septocemia. The doctors at Fortis kept on falsely assuring us that she will be alright though she was put on ventilator after she developed complications. When we saw no recovery, we had to shift her to P.G.I. Chandigarh as per the doctor’s advice on 24/2/11. We spent around Rs. 7.4 Lakhs as against Rs. 1.75 lakhs earlier told to us. She unfortunately died on 0 04/03/11 as she could not recover from the Septocemia she had developed at Fortis.
During my stay at Fortis, I was astonished to notice the callous attitude of the doctors available. The whole motive of running the hospital to my mind, it seems is to make money. The welfare of the patients sadly seems to be the last concern of the hospital. On 13/02/11 when she developed complications, though we had deposited Rs. 1.75 lakhs at the reception on the same day, for a mere Rs. 20000 which was to be the cost of the days to come, her operation was delayed by more than an hour. We had a hard time convincing the female sitting at the reception that this cost is to be occurred after 5 days and against a surgery cost of Rs. 11500, We had deposited more than Rs. 1.2 Lakhs. The remaining cost of Rs. 20000 will be required only if survived the second surgery, but the lady was adamant and refused to give the clearance for surgery without realising that the delay of one hour could have been fatal. The female asked us to sign the promissory note thought we pleaded that as soon as the operation started somebody can go back home and bring the balance. Little did, she realised that the day was Sunday and it was 7 AM in the morning. How cruel, inhuman and insensitive a human being can be ,I realised after this experience.
I think the motto written everywhere in the hospital as “CARE AND CURE” should be changed to SCARE- so as to attract patients by terrifying them with wrong and inflated diagnosis and SECURE – Assests/ money for the hospital by holding the patients as bonded after they are admitted and sucking the life out of them even if they survive.

I would like to ask the writer what qualifications does he or she hold ? In what capacity can you characterize a leakage as negligence of doctor ? I would request you to please go back and find out the facts about anastomotic leakage and 'septocemia' (sic) before you blame the doctor who would have so painstakingly created the anastomosis. In every surgery there is a risk of complications and there are reasons other than 'negligence' for it.
Dear i am lawyer not a doctor but i must assure u that i consulted many doctors in my city and the reason she died was due to fungal infection and that i know from a doctor that it is a hospital acquired infection. and more over hospital and doctors are liable because they delayed an emergency operation by around 2 hours. and let me tell u being a lawyer all the medical practitioners are under duty to provide medical assistance without waiting for the formalities. (Pt. parmanand Katara v. UOI).
As per pseudobuji, to compaint or comments, certain qualifications are required.
These type of hospitals go all the way to change the reports. For eg a helathy person going for angography will be shown as brought in critical codition under & heart attack or even worse brought dead if negligence detected. Patients are the victims of greed in these Hospitals and too much rush and badly maintained eqp in Govt hospitals.

My name is Balwinder Kaur and I am a resident of Chandigarh. For the past many years I was having a lot of problem in my knees. Walking was becoming very difficult. The pain and discomfort was so unbearable, that even routine work was impossible for me to perform. My friend advised me to go to Fortis Hospital Mohali, and I am so happy that I went there. I consulted Dr Harsimran Singh, and after my check up, he told me to undergo Total Knee Replacement. My family also encouraged me to get the operation done, as after seeing the superior infrastructure of the hospital and the caring attitude of the Doctor they were in no doubt that everything would be ok. My surgery was on 26th April. Dr Harsimran Singh did a wonderful job on my knees. The surgery went off very well. I am able to move around very easily and have resumed my daily tasks. A special mention here to the nursing staff who went above and beyond the call of duty to take care of me. Thank you Fortis Hospital Mohali, for giving me a new life.
hi vaibhavdewan87...
My family is also a victim of similar case...
Can you share your e-mail id so that I can discuss this with you, ., ?
My Mother had severe gum bleeding at 12.30 am, we reached fortis at 1 am, the emergency doctor took the blood pressure and did blood tests. and gave one injection till 6 am bleeding didn't stop and they discharged saying we don't have a dentist and on Sunday morning dentist doesn't come in fortis. We had ECHS card so money was not a concern, and if money was not the concern why they didn't call the dentist and doctors present in the emergency did not know how to stop bleeding and they said this is normal.
So I should go to some private dentist, at 6 am I went to a competent Dr Dugal, she stopped the bleeding in 1 hour she was in shock to see that patient was bleeding since 12.30 am
Doctors are so so incompetent that they didn't even call a dentist in 5 hours, and released the patient while the patient was still bleeding. One junior doctor comes to attend and rest of the doctors are sitting in the doctor's room light closed and laughing. Just one remark after 5 hours we don't have a dentist and dentist cannot come on sunday. My mother bleeds for 5 hours heavily, and a competent dentist resolved that in 1 hour with total satisfaction. Hight of incompetency, I have seen again and again that doctors don't even care you live or die. Are these doctors human?
The same bleeding caused no reaction in doctors of fortis for 5 hours and same bleeding for on dentist was such a serious matter that she was in shock and took the things so seriously.
