[Resolved]  Hawkins Cookers — tax not due but deducted on fixed deposit

Address:Mumbai Suburban, Maharashtra

Most of the public ltd companies try to pay less and less tax by fair and foul means. But they are liberal in deducting tax at source on fixed deposits-even when the 15G/H forms are submitted in time. The software in their computer is designed to deduct tax by default. No action is taken on the 15G/H forms, in many cases and the tax is deducted and paid to Govt, by the time tax interest warrant reaches the depositor. The stock reply by the companies is- 15G/H form not received. No company gives acknowledgement when we send 15G/H forms so that they can take the escape route of telling that 15 g form was not received..The FD holder has no proof of submission..
Besides harassment to FD holder, this results in unnecessary refund claim for the income tax dept, increasing their workload considerably. They are also to pay interest on refund amount. In such cases, the IT dept should recover the interest from the defaulting company.
Hawkins cookers also has joined the list of such companies. They deducted tax from my deposit no 61624& 61625 even though 15 g was submitted in April 2012.
