[Resolved]  J&k State Handloom — Chingu stuff

We went to Manali last weekend and listen to all stuff that every one has quoted here. I had similar feelings and questions untill i introspected.

Don't feel cheated...This is a good example of Sales strategy. They are selling 5 to 7 stuff (carpets and blankets and shawls) by advertising the Chingu mixed in customer's greed.

They are booking your order and sending the stuff timely as promised...as we expect from any other honest vendors. So no question on their loyality towards sold stuff and customer relations.

We feel deceived Not because Chingu is not original rather coz of "false promise of money back". Common sense says Who will give you 6 items free with 1 Chingu that will cost you just 660 Rs (10% of 6600) after ~2years. Listening to Shopkeep we start evaluating the cost of free items we are getting along with chingu including money back. Once we are out of that shop we start thinking of authenticity of chingu and money back policy as stated (not written) by shopkeeper and simply consider all free stuff as bonus.

What shopkeeper thinks... He is finding hard to sell 1 blanket but if he exploit the customer greed of getting the 5-6 items free along with some story of J&K handloom and Chingu, he can sell 5-6 items + 1 blanket at the price where customer is not even trying to do the bargain.

And the exploiting the customer greed is no different that what we see daily in advertisements on TV. Otherwise do you feel the same when eating cadbury exclairs, fly with 'Red bull', 'take care' with Garnier products. Very good advertisement skills.

At last we need to consider "Nothing is free on this planet my dear"...
But Yes, they are ruining the reputation of Himachal So Locals, Govt and tourism officials should look into this matter and save the reputation of state.

Hey guys...i think i am also victim of these frauds. Recently we had a trip tp Ooty and went to Kashmiri handlooms shop their. initially i didn't believe on them but those guys told us about the shop run by J & K goverment. Still i did not go with them and then purchased only one dress from them. But later, Shop keeper guys showed some evidences of purchases made from our own city pune, then i changed my mind and went for 10, 400/- scheme. I paid 2000 in advance and still i need to pay remaining 9000, also they did not give me a single thing with me as they said it will dispatched to your address as and when when ask us to deliver it but after reading this stuff i am really worried.

Actually confused, should i pay remaining 9000 and get the items or should consider as lost 2000.
What should be done? please suggest.
I want to go back to Ooty again and hit those guys for cheating me but sooner or later i will definetly do that.

We three, families were also on tour to Shimla & Manali between 20/03/2011 to 25/03/2011. At almost all the places where ever we went, agents were behind us to see “ Chingu ”. It was initially intersting to hear “ Chingu dekho sab.. ”. Like kids, we were also making fun out of that. But ultimately I have also brought one set of Chingu costing Rs 6600+500 (chingu + 5 free gifts) and an additional two gifts as it was fully paid and self carry mode (from Sachin Glacier Handloom & Handicraft Emporium, Near Vashit Temple, Manali-175103. Bill No 134). Before going for the tour we were not having any idea of chingu. Basically all o[censored]s are from south india ( presently from Gujart), hence don’t have much idea of wool and realted items. While purchasing the items I knew that that they are not going to fullfil their promises. I have purchased the items to keep as some mementos of Manali tour and also indirectly helping the local’s population to do their the business and earn something. After returning back only, I have found out the reviews and complaints of so many persons with respect to chingu and their's experience.

The concerned govt: should take serious note of this for any misselling as their major revenue is from tourism. They should curb any type of day light looting, if any, by the shop keepers, since they are pretended to sell the items on behalf of them.

I HAVE PERCHASED PASMINA BLANKET WITH OTHER ITEMS ON RETURN BASIS AFTER TWO YEARS FROM BHIMTAL( NAINITAL) SHOP VIDE MEMO NO.-456 DT. 4.12.2010. SHOP MANAGER MR. GUPTA HAS ASSURED ME THAT THE CARD WITH MY PHOTO WILL BE SENT WITHIN 40 DAYS. BUT I HAVE YET NOT RECEIVED THE SAME IN SPITE OF SO MANY CALLS ON MOBILE NO[protected] AND THERE IS NO GOOD BAHAVE ON TELEPHONE.

It is a real scam and unfortunately, it can't be stopped by posting our complaints here.Although some awareness can be spread by posting the truth...
the scheme goes like this...
shopkeeper will tell u about a new scheme called CHINGU..started by J&K govt.
Buy a package worth rs.[protected]..depending on how much the customer can spend.

TRUTH: there is no such scheme started by govt. those who claim that the shop belongs to govt. ask them to come to local police station or tourism dept. office and verify the same. they will never do it.

He will tell u that the blanket (chingu} is made from animal called chingu...
TRUTH : there is no animal named chingu in the world

u will get 5 to 10 gifts with it
TRUTH: those things are from old stock which the shopkeeper wasnt able to sell..and the cost of those items is not more than[protected]

chingu blanket will get ripe and become costlier with age
TRUTH; no clothing material gets expensive as it gets old...U can verify from cloth merchants in your own city..

they will take back the blanket after 5 yrs and refund your money
TRUTH:usually those shops are taken on rent for 4-5 years...u wont find that shop again...some give wrong address and phone numbers...some take back the blanket assuming that only 5-10% will come back...still the shopkeeper will be in profit because whole set costs not more than 3000...and they sell it for 7000 or even 20000 to 50000 depending upon how greedy they are or how rich the customer is...

That blanket is not more than 800 rupees
Use your common sense...what would they earn if they take ur product back..
always verify such things from tourism dept. and complaint to the local police if any such thing happens to you...
this is the only way to stop it...PLEASE REMEMBER THAT FEW PERSONS IN THE POLICE AND TOURISM AND HANDICRAFT DEPT. GET HUGE BRIBES FROM SUCH SHOPKEEPERS...
BEST WAY IS TO AVOID IT AND COMPLAINT TO MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS OR LODGE A CASE AGAINST THE CULPRITS

I was also offered the same ..but I am noticing that by the price difference is too much in all complaints.I was offered the same set @ only 6000 Rs @ Katra.I think these people lowered the price range as it was last year.We at once realized that this is all fake and in turn asked the vendor that if the blanket with get costlier by the time, why the government is not distributing it free of cost to the needy people in the country where people die in winters for lack of proper clothing.The shopkeeper got annoyed and started giving me weird facts.
Anyways, kindly steer clear of this or any lucrative offers made.

the same thing happened with me in Sattal (Nainital), shop name is JAMMU AND KASHMIR HANDLOOM AND HANDICRAFT EMPORIUM, its near sattal boat stand, i visited there on 8th April, those guys just convinced me about the deal, the deal was off Rs. 8400 in which they were offering one main blanket of some animal wool saying its very costly and luring wiht 5 other gift.

i just narrow escaped, initially i ordered for one but then i checked on internet and found your comments, i immediately cancelled my order and asked to refund the money, but still they were trying to convice me showing there J&K govt. certificate which was fake, however i cancelled and took my money back.

i request you all that please dont get involved in this, the blankets are totally worthless, you can get from regular market at price difference of 60 % less

Guys i purchased sheme on 9-1-12 and tull today i havnt got free tour letter from them. I am trying tgere number but bt incoming is off. The only solutn is we should take a strict action against Them togethr .

Thats true. I seem to be the latest victim. I bought the stuff by paying full amount 23000.00 at J&K Handloom House, Bhimtal on May 09, 2013. I also fell for the free stuff plus the quality looked very good. I am not sure how it fares after 2 years but going through the experiences of other people, it seems to be a well planned con job.

Although we people are busy in our own lives yet we should make an effort to report it to relevant authorities so that people like us are not conned in future. I, on my part, will try to take every possible step to report the matter although it is not easy in our country. There is a very real prospect of corrupt officials / agents / private hotels staff involved in this because I checked with couple of people in the hotel where I was staying and they recommended it.

I wish I would have read it before. Same happend to us, we booked the scheem of 13500, paid 3500 there and asked for VPP. when back I searched on net and found it to be fake. we cantaced shop and told we don't want this, stop our parcel and refund us. He said parcel is already dispached, when we said then we will reject it, he said 50% money will be cut as charges. We said that then refund us remaining 1700, we rejected parcel and now he is saying no for refund, We didn't get any material nor the refund. Please tell How we should deal with this

i have also bought this staff, but my point is this page consumer-complaints revert some solution for this fraud or is it doning nothing for us.
guys i have a plan next time whenever i will go for hill station i will put banners on way to not buy these staff ...:-)
