[Resolved]  Marriage Certificate — Certificate not issued

Address:Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Hello,
I have recently registered my marriage (Marriage serial number 56 of year 2011) at Davidson Street Registrar office in Chennai. I have received a 'True Extract of Hindu Marriage Register Kept By the marriage registrar office' - a 6 page document.
I was expecting a single page certificate with photos of husband and wife and statements that our marriage is legal. When asked about this, the registrar said that such a document cannot be issued and that I needed to go to Anna nagar registrar office. When checking with that office I was denied of a marriage certificate.
When passed this information to the Davidson street Registrar, she gave a different reason: as our date of marriage is more than 3 months prior to registration, the certificate cannot be issued.
Does that mean our marriage is not legal? I certainly need this. As this document will be the only (legal) proof of marriage.
Regards,
Vinith

The reply may be late, but I am answering to help those who still have this problem .My husband and I got married in Dec 2009. As per the Tamilnadu law we had to register within 3 months but due to many reasons we registered our marriage shortly before our 5th wedding anniversary. We received a 6 page true extract of marriage certificate and my husband used that for addition of spouse's name in his passport in hyderabad. The true extract is therefore valid proof of marriage.
