[Resolved]  More Store (Aditya Birla Retail) — Expired Cake sold to me after 5 days of expiry date

Address:Pune, Maharashtra

Details of the complaint:

This weekend (9th april 2010) apart from my regular purchases, I also bought a BREADKRAFT WALNUT CAKE. My wife and kids consumed the cake after going home unaware of the fact that the EXPIRY DATE for the cake was 4th april 2010. They immediately started complaining of stomach ache and vomiting. We had to call a doctor who diagnosed the case to be of ‘Food Poisoning’ because of eating the expired cake.

Explanation required from More:

I have some immediate questions, which I would like the management to answer.

1) How was a cake whose expiry date was 4th april kept in the store for sale even till 9th april?

2) At the time of selling / billing how was the expiry date missed by the billing person?

History of expired products being sold at More store, Baner:

I would have considered this as a genuine one time case but unfortunately this has happened to me twice in the last 2 years that More Store, Baner has sold expired products.
Last time I had been sold expired NESTLE DAHI, which was not consumed by my family hence we all were fortunately saved, but this time the store’s mismanagement has reached its peak and I suppose you have no interest in improving your store mis-management.

Action that I intend to take:

Last time when the EXPIRED NESTLE DAHI was sold to me, I had written a formal complaint but the manager had called me up to explain that it was just a one time mistake, so I had kept quiet.
This time I have already contacted PUNE MIRROR (Newspaper) and they are ready to publish this shocking story of EXPIRED PRODUCTS being sold in broad daylight with photographs.
I also have the MEDICAL CERTIFICATE from my family doctor who had diagnosed FOOD POISIONING after eating the cake.

In view of the lenient Legal rules, I would always Say 'Buyer Beware!!'. Teach even the child to check the Expirty Date on any product- be it Chocolates, Cream Biscuits, Tooth Paste, Face creams and almost every product. More soe the perishable goods management is at a very nascent stage in India. Always be careful when buying Bread, Milk Products.
