[Resolved]  NSC — Non Receipt of Maturity Amount

This is to bring to your notice the ORDEAL OF A NSC INVESTOR, who has completely lost faith on the pathetic condition of the Indian Postal Services. Details of the Ordeals are mentioned below for your reference.

I had purchased 3 NSC Certificates of amount Rs. 1,000/= (Rupees One Thousand) each from the Airoli Post Office, Navi-Mumbai in January, 2003, which has already matured on 27/01/2010. Since, I currently stay at my permanent residence in Kolkata, West Bengal, I had intimated the Alipore Head Post Office that I want to withdraw the maturity amount through their Post Office. So, as per the advise of the concerned person Mr. Babul Dutta, I had submitted a hand-written Application dated 25/11/2009 addressed to Post Master, Airoli Post Office for transfer of the aforesaid amount to Alipore Head Post Office immediately upon maturity.

However, since there was no response till the middle of February, 2010, I had met Mr. Babul Dutta four times and he had sent Two Reminders in this regard, but still there was no response from Airoli Post Office. On my 4th meeting with Mr. Babul Dutta, I had personally called up Airoli Post Office in his presence and to my utter surprise came to know from the lady, who had attended the phone that they have misplaced my Application and I have to re-submit another Application alongwith a photocopy of the 3 NSC Certificates, which I immediately handed over to Mr. Babul Dutta the very next day. Still, there was no response for almost a month till the middle of March, 2010.

Ultimately, being fed-up, I had called Up the SSPO Panvel, Phone #:[protected] and talked to Mrs. Sawant, who informed me that they will look into this matter immediately and get back to me on the same day itself, which she never bothered to do. The next day, I called up on the same Telephone # and spoke to Mr. Chavan, who said that they are unable to trace the copy of my 2nd Application even. Then, when I threatened to complain to higher authorities, he said he would investigate the matter & will callback after few hours. He called up and informed my father that he has found the 2nd Application and will take immediate steps to expedite the payment of the matured amount and will as well, intimate the Alipore Head Post Office through a Fax. Since, again I did not receive any information about the matter for over 2 weeks, I had called up Mr. Babul Dutta, who informed me that he has still not received the Fax or any Correspondence from the Panvel SSPO or Airoli Post Office. On, 10/04/2010, my Father called up SSPO Panvel and a lady attended the phone and said that Mr. Chavan has been transferred recently and we have to send another set of application.

Now, I am really fed-up with the worthless & irresponsible bunch of Staff, who are coming to Office to fool around without actually doing the job they are being paid for from Public Money. How long do I have to wait just to receive the maturity amount and hear all these concocted stories from time to time? It is a shame on Postal Service Dept. and stern action should be immediately initiated against these irresponsible Staff. It is high time now that I am thinking about filing a Legal Complaint with the Court of Law.
