[Resolved]  Reader's Digest — Refund of my money charged for duplicate subscription

Hi,

I had subscribed to the Reader’s Digest magazine on May 3, 2013. I had done the payment through net banking and had also changed my mailing address at that time. I have also received an acknowledgement from the RD team about the successful payment and subscription (Please see the following email). Here’re the details:

However, today afternoon I received a parcel through VPP and was asked to pay Rs. 577. I was not at home at that time and my mother has taken the VPP and paid the money. I want to know why did you send a duplicate subscription through VPP? When my net banking payment was confirmed, what was the need to request another payment through VPP? My mother did not know what to do and therefore, paid the money to the postman.

I spoke to the customer care and the agent told me it is going to take 4 to 6 weeks to refund the money. Why should it take such a long time? Why can’t the RD team call the postman or the concerned person and refund my money back. If this is a mistake, then I must say it is a very “planned” mistake. Is it some kind of a gimmick to get money or get the subscription for two years?

I want the full money refunded to me in a week and if that is not done, then I am sorry to say that I will have to cancel my subscription forever and will never subscribe the magazine again. I am very disappointed with this. I have been a very avid reader of your magazines and have always recommended this magazine to others. But this issue has really planted doubts about the ethics and principles followed by the RD team.
I hope this issue will be taken very seriously.

I have mailed them twice but have not heard from them at all.

Thanks,
Kaveri

Reader's Digest — Duplication

Today my house people, in my absence, cleared a VPP parccel for Rs.398/- contg 3 free books towards my fresh subscription for RD. The very same free books came to me a few days ago and a cheque payment has been made to you. as subscription for RD.

As a matter of fact, your subscription notices had come to me twice, on 15th June and again on 30th June, and while I replied 'yes' to the former notice, I returned the 30th June notice back to you stating that it was duplication of the same notice,

And now, overlooking the above, you have sent me the same free books twice and received payment twice. If I were at home today, the second delivery of the same books would not have taken place.

Please email me as to what I should do with the same books. Since you have an office in Chennai, who are near my residence, please ask them to hand me over a cheque for Rs.398/- and take back your parcel.

The parcel details are :
REGD VPP PACKET for Rs.379/- (plus Gopalapuram PO charged me additionally Rs.19/-)
