The Country Club has engaged in deceptive business practices. Upon securing membership payment of INR 65, 000, the company failed to provide promised resort bookings and instead mandated an additional Annual Maintenance Charge (AMC) of approximately INR 35, 000 for a five-year period. Subsequent to the AMC payment, the availability of bookings was misrepresented, with only one location being offered, which was not suitable due to prior visits. Furthermore, the accommodation provided was substandard, evidenced by rodent infestation that resulted in property damage. The following year, the company imposed a mandatory food package for booking, which was not initially disclosed, and upon refusal, a convenience fee of INR 3, 000 per day was demanded. Disillusioned by the lack of transparency and fulfillment of commitments, I elected to discontinue utilizing their services. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the forfeiture of my holiday entitlements, despite travel restrictions. The company’s subsequent request for AMC payment to reinstate holidays, while withholding information regarding the obligatory food package, is indicative of their continued opaque and unethical operations.
