Last year in august 2016 our home owner’s association’s (Hoa) insurance company nationwide determined they would not pay for water damage that occurred in a common wall between our condominium and our neighbor’s. Before that determination, i received an email from stefani, an insurance adjuster representing nationwide. She asked me my name and after i told her, she said hatefully, “in this country you have to have a name that people can pronounce!” i believe from the beginning stefani was discriminating against me, judging by her demeaning and racist comment. Stefanie inspected the property on 8/30/16. According to the plumber, who admitted he was not a licensed plumber, stefanie deliberately got him to say the cracked pipe had been leaking for a while. Stefanie also took it upon herself to tell my tenant he was entitled to get back rent and to stay in a hotel until the damage was repaired. The tenant stayed at a hotel at our expense. Then he moved out on 9/8/16 without paying half of august’s and none of september’s rent. I feel stefanie purposely did this, and more, to hurt us. She said the claim was being denied even though the damages had grown to $50, 000 stating it was denied because the pipe had been leaking for a while. I’m not sure how nationwide’s adjuster can argue that a minimum of 60 gallons of water per day (Average 30 gpd per person) can be trapped between two walls on a concrete slab for a long period of time without coming through the wall for the two tenants to see. It seems logical it would be almost immediately obvious. We contend the leak began on or about 8/12/16 when the tenants first noticed it. There is also the other factor that the damage has cost us $50, 000, well over the $10.000 criteria originally stated by the adjuster.
In my opinion, their pr campaign “nationwide is on your side” is a farce and is inaccurate. To date i have found their service, or lack of, at best to be horrible and deceptive and at worst racist. To say i have been shocked and disgusted by nationwide’s lack of service and professionalism is a huge understatement.
