IBM India — Unethical Transport Department, Women Safety

Address:Bangalore, Karnataka

One of my known is working in IBM Bangalore Domlur Branch. The person is frustrated by the unethical behavior of the transport department. The transport management is worst and is either good for the employee nor for the drivers of the cabs. But the sad part is that someone who is as inefficient as one can be, is made the highest unquestionable authority. No one can request, suggest, query or complaint about anything(related to transport), be that employees or drivers. The whole system is so inefficient that it makes the travel time of the employees more than 5 hours. How can the company expect it's employees to be super efficient with this kind of situation.I do not understand the logic behind providing different cabs daily and NOT sharing the driver's number. HOW CAN THIS ASSURE THE SAFETY OF WOMEN EMPLOYEE (AS WELL AS THE MEN EMPLOYEE, DRIVERS THEMSELVES AND GUIDE WHO ESCORT WOMEN EMPLOYEES). I would really want to request the (department or people who are actually) CONCERNED department to look into the matter. Try to collect feedback (in the form of requests, suggests, queries or complaints )from employees as well as the drivers and guides (who escort women employee) about the overall management of the department.

I know this is the correct platform to raise this issue, but the concern department does not care or listens at all. I would request the other IBMers to share their various (good/bad or horrible)experiences regarding the transport department.

I just want to quote an EXAMPLE of the SUPER EFFICIENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM (as well as department). One of my colleague who was living 32-33 km away from the office, had worked in both the shifts (Shift A-05:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs and Shift B-14:15 hrs to 23:15 hrs). In the morning shift, she used to be picked up the cab between 03:45 hrs and 03:55 hrs and reach office before login time. While going back (Shift A), the cab used to leave the office premise latest by 14:40 hrs and she used to reach home by 16:15 hrs (not after that, that too in heavy traffic hours). Same in shift B, pick up time-12:45 and drop- 00:30 hrs. The buffer time(term used in IBM) was as per the mutual understanding between the driver and employee, but not more than 20 minutes.

I want to make it very clear that, this has nothing to do with the work culture of IBM. It is a super awesome company to work with. The only problem is the TRANSPORT, which is causing the family-work life imbalance.

Drivers are not instructed properly, they dont wear seat belt, listen to music on high volume, and worst is that, few watch JioTV while driving
