[Resolved]  Mahavir Auto - Skoda Dealer — Fabia ambiente - catching fire in engine while driving

My car Fabia - AP 10 BD 6468 has been always serviced by Mahavir Auto, Secunderabad. On 29th Nov, while driving the car within city, there was a smoke, car stalled and stopped. We opened the Bonnet and found big fire on top of engine. We managed to stop spreading of fire. It had to be towed to service centre and after evaluating the damage, Mahavir gave an estimate of Rs.1 lac. Despite my repeated requests, Skoda took time to find out the reason for fire. Also the components were not available in India and had to be brought from Czech. The self ignition while driving could have led to loss of lives. Skoda or Mahavir are not sharing the technical report but want me to meet the expenses. It is utterly unprofessional and the car has not been made available for more than 1 1/2 months. Customer difficulties are totally ignored. Skoda/ Dealer are trying to say that there has been some extra relay ( electrical connection) that led to fire. Since the car was being serviced only by Skoda dealer, they can not now point out something which I am not even aware of. Now, I find that there are other cars which have caught fire - from photos published by a few other customers. I am sure that manufacturer should take the blame squarely and replace all components FREE OF COST and make my car available to me without delay. If this has happened in Europe or USA, the customers would have been paid huge compensation for the defect in the car manufacture. If Skoda has to improve their sale, they have to attend to existing problems in the car(s).
