I am writing to bring to your immediate attention a severe and escalating monkey menace that the residents of Old Hasimara, Rajib Colony, Dist. Alipurduar 735215, West Bengal have been facing this problem for the past 5 to 7 years. Over the last few months, the situation has turned critical, and the problems are increasing day by day.
The population of monkeys in our area has grown exponentially, and their behavior has become highly aggressive. They are causing extensive damage to property and posing a serious threat to the safety of the residents. Specifically, we are facing the following severe issues:
Property Damage: The monkeys frequently climb onto roofs, completely destroying and ripping apart roofs made out of tin sheets, leading to heavy financial losses for the residents.
Home Invasions: They have lost all fear of humans and regularly enter houses through windows and balconies, ransacking kitchens, destroying food supplies, and breaking household items.
Safety Hazards and Attacks: The most alarming concern is their aggressive nature. They frequently intimidate residents, and there have been multiple instances where they have chased and attacked people, particularly targeting women and children.
We have tried various local measures to deter them, but due to their sheer numbers and aggression, these attempts have proven futile. The residents are currently living in a constant state of fear, unable to step outside safely or leave their windows open.
Given the gravity of the situation, I earnestly request the Forest Department to intervene immediately. We request you to deploy a team to safely trap and relocate these monkeys to their natural habitat, or implement effective containment measures to restore safety and peace to our neighborhood.
