My name is rekha nair. I am a professor and work as dean at a premier institute in gandhinagar.Yesterday i.E. On 29 march 2016 (Tuesday), i visited this osia hypermart at 4d square mall @ motera to shop for some plates and bowls, around 4:00 pm. This is a shopping mall located at the basement of this complex (I.E. 4d square mall). When i was shopping for my stuff at the crockery section of the said mall, all of a sudden i felt suffocating as it was too hot outside and there was minimal air circulation inside the mart (Remember, it is situated in the basement). I, therefore, requested the attendant there to kindly turn on the air-conditioner in that section of the mart to which he rudely replied that he couldn't as there were not enough customers there. On further inquiring another three customers there shared with me the that they had also received the same reply a little while before i arrived. I continued to request him that he please turn on the ac as it was very stuffy and i found it difficult to breathe and he continued with the same response and finally asked me to go and ask the manager myself and maybe he may then turn it on. Since, i was by this time too exhausted with the suffocating environment (All this went on around for 10 odd minutes), i asked him to escort me to the concerned person (Who had the authority to turn on the acs) to which the attendant reluctantly complied. Then i was taken to one mr. Chirag patel, who seemed to be the manager of the said mart. When i requested him to turn on the ac in the crockery section, he rudely informed me that it would be turned on only at 4:30 pm. When i asked him why the time was fixed, he replied that it was set by the electricians. When i informed him of the suffocating environment as there was no air circulation in the basement, he rudely told me that the ac would be turned on only at 4:30 pm. Let me bring this to your notice that this osia hypermart opens at 11am every morning and remains open till 11pm at night. It indicates that the air circulation in not attended to in this mart during the period 11 am to 4:30 pm, which is close to over 5 hours. So i counter questioned mr. Chirag patel that why doesn't he then open the mart open at 4:30 pm to the customers rather than suffocating them, he behaved very rudely with me and started yelling at me. By this time, about 15 odd customers and other 30 odd staff members had already assembled at the main counter where i was arguing with the manager. I hope you can now feel the heat and discomfort that i and other fellow customers/visitors must have felt.

What i intend to bring to your notice is :
1. Isn't there any rule or policy that looks into enforcing these hypermarts, particularly the ones that function in the basements, to provide proper air circulation as well as well ventilated environment to the customers ?
2. Considering the fact that these malls witness close to[protected] visitors per week, the amount of carbon dioxide that is exhaled from the people remains in the area, until it is properly ventilated, thus causing a lot of air-borne ailments to the visitors. Isn't it the moral responsibility of these mall owners to ensure a well ventilated shopping environment ?
3. Moreover, since theses malls are closed areas, the unhygienic and unclean toilets also cause trouble to the visitors. The stench of the urinals eminate into the shopping area, thus causing discomfort among the customers/visitors.

It is my humble request to the amc, since motera falls under your jurisdiction, to look into this matter and ensure that the mall owner makes proper arrangements for air circulation and take strict actions and measures to ensure that he follows the amc guidelines.

Ms Nair, Being a Professor and Dean we do not expect such behavior from you. Its the matter and right of that mall / mart when they want to switch on / off their AC! I have not seen any person dieing because of Air Conditioner being off. If they are not providing good service they will loose their customers, just like you won't go there anymore.

But its unfortunate to see that being an educated woman your wasting your precious time writing this huge and long reply here, I can't imagine what would you be doing with your students in the college? What would be your expectations there?

Try giving a complaint to amc I bet they won't even accept your complaint. Its a private property and absolutely the owner's choice whenever they want to turn on / off ac, fans, light etc.
