Delivery of Near-Expiry Food Product in Violation of FSSAI Guidelines
I placed an order on Swiggy Instamart (Order ID: #[protected]) for a 5kg pack of Fortune Sabarmati Atta, which was delivered on 20th December 2024. Upon checking the product, I found that its manufacturing date was 11th October 2024, and the expiry date was 9th January 2025. This leaves only 20 days of shelf life at the time of delivery.
As per the guidelines issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), all food products sold through e-commerce platforms must have a minimum of 45 days of shelf life remaining at the time of delivery. This is a clear violation of FSSAI's guidelines.
I contacted Swiggy’s customer support via the app on 20th December 2024 and spent over an hour trying to resolve the issue. The customer care executive, Ripandeep, dismissed my concerns, stating that the product was still consumable and did not warrant a replacement or refund. She even made an unprofessional remark, claiming that 18 days was sufficient for consuming 5kg of the product, which is irrelevant and unacceptable.
I escalated the issue to Swiggy, but the response I received was unsatisfactory. They merely acknowledged the complaint as feedback without taking any concrete action to address the issue or provide refund/replacement or any compensation for the inconvenience caused.
This experience highlights negligence on Swiggy's part in adhering to food safety standards and misrepresenting product quality. Selling near-expiry products at premium prices and dismissing valid customer concerns is unethical and a violation of consumer rights. Was this information helpful? |
