I had taken a home loan from Tata Capital in [Month, Year] and during the loan process, I was forced to purchase an insurance policy worth ₹1, 89, 551. I specifically asked the marketing representative if there would be any deduction or loss in case of loan preclosure, and I was clearly told that the full insurance amount would be refunded.
I preclosed the home loan within a year. Following that, Tata Capital closed the insurance as well. However, I received only ₹80, 000 as refund for an insurance worth nearly ₹1.9 lakhs.
To make matters worse:
The insurance was divided into two policies — one from AIG and another from Tata AIA, without any prior information or my consent.
No explanation was given for the remaining unrefunded amount.
Tata Capital is refusing to provide a breakup or proper reasoning for why such a large deduction was made.
This is a clear case of mis-selling and non-transparent behavior from a reputed financial institution.
I request Tata Capital and the respective insurance companies to:
Provide full documentation and breakup of the refund.
Refund the remaining balance amount or explain why it is not being refunded.
Take accountability for the miscommunication and unethical selling practice.
If this issue is not resolved, I will escalate to IRDAI, RBI Ombudsman, and lodge a legal complaint via consumer court.
