Tata Motors — New Tata Safari-Clutch & flywheel change in 3000 Kms-a manufacturing defect

Address:vaishali, Ghaziabad

1. I bought a Safari XZ+ Adv on 17.3.2023.

2. First service done from Sab motors, Ghaziabad on 16.4.23 vides vr no. 3006130 and paid 620.

3. On 25.4.23 an up gradation of software was done from SAB motors.

4. On 26.4.23, while driving from my house to Airport, the vehicle showed some power train problem and the same was assumed to be rectified from SAB motors on the same day without opening a job card and the service engineer told me that there is no problem in the vehicle.

5. On 27.4.23., while driving to the office in the morning, smoke from the bonnet was observed (the reason for that is not known to me)

6. I stopped the vehicle and called the service engineer, he told me to bring the vehicle after cooling the engine. I reached the service station and they put jet water in the engine compartment and cooled down the engine /did some adjustments and delivered the vehicle (without opening a job card). And also assured me that there will not be any problem henceforth and I can drive the vehicle to any distance without any problem.

7. On the second occasion ie. On 3.5.2023 also a burning smell from the engine /bonnet bound me to visit the service centre. It is regretted to report that the service personnel neither attended to my complaints nor gave any satisfactory reply but assured me to drive away the vehicle as there was no problem and I can drive the vehicle anywhere in India without fear. I believed them and took away the vehicle as I am not an Automobile engineer/Mechanical engineer.

8. But persistent burning smell from the engine side compelled me to file a complaint in the customer cell of Tata Motors on 08.05.2023. ONLY AFTER THAT, I GOT A CALL/MAIL FROM SAB MOTORS TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE STATION FOR CHECKING.

9. Accordingly the vehicle was handed over to the service station of SAB Motors on[protected] and they opened a Job card on the same day and assured the delivery within a day, ie… By 10.5.23.

(An acknowledgement was also received through the mail on 9.5.23).

But nothing from the service station was received till 12/05/23. When I inquired about the delivery of the vehicle to the Supervisor, service engineer and customer care head of Sab Motors, they directed me to report the matter to another person by shifting the responsibilities of the service department. Finally, the customer care head told me that the clutch and flywheel of the vehicle were burned and the same will not work further the matter was brought to the notice of Tata Motors as there is no warranty on these items as per the laid down policy of the company.

When I telephoned the service engineer, to enquire about the matter he also told me that “I don’t know how to drive the vehicle” and that is why the problem has occurred. I AM DRIVING MOTOR VEHICLES FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS AND from2005 ONWARDS I AM USING ONLY TATA VEHICLES ie…TATA INDICA UPTO 2015 AND ZEST UPTO 2023 AND BOUGHT THIS SAFARI BY EXCHANGING THE ZESAS I TRUSTED TATA IS MAKING GOOD QUALITY VEHICLES AND PROVIDING QUALITY SERVICES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. And in my colony, I am labelled as a TATAs brand ambassador.

Further, it is also to complain that the vehicle was bought on 17.3.2023, and within two months, the main parts like the clutch and flywheel were damaged/burned for the reasons best known to the engineers of Tata Motors. I think Tata makes low-quality materials to manufacture clutch, flywheel etc, without which the engine cannot work/move and these are the main part and parcel of the engine. It has also come to the knowledge that these parts do not have any guarantee/warranty as per the warranty card issued by Tata Motors at the time of the first delivery of the Vehicle. A customer buying a new vehicle, to avoid any troubles at least for 2-3 years. In my case, it happened after1 1/2months, which is intolerable, and can make negative publicity against Tata’s products, which may also look into it.

A layman purchasing a vehicle has some expectations AND never gets a chance to go through the warranty card of the product which was only given after making payment and at the time of delivery, which indirectly affects the credentials of the company and can be disputed at the consumer protection cell also.

Now on 13.5.23, the service centre of the SAB motors handed over an estimate of Rs. 51500/- plus GST to get back the vehicle in its normal condition, which means this vehicle needs a MAJOR REPAIR, which also shows that either Tata’s not using good quality materials to manufacture this parts. That is also a kind of cheating which can directly hit the reputation of the TATAs.

I personally contacted Sh. Ajay Rawat, NCR Customer Care head of TATA Motors through his mobile number [protected], tried to compromise the situation by making some sort of petty rebates against the estimate furnished by the service department, instead of helping us to get the spare part changed.

I AM NOT IN A POSITION TO MAKE THE PAYMENT OF RS. 60000(APPROX), WHICH IS A LOSS TO ME DUE TO THE LOW-QUALITY PARTS ASSEMBLED BY TATA MOTORS THE SAME CAN BE REPEATED ON A MONTHLY BASIS ALSO AS ALL THE CUSTOMERS ARE NOT AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERS/MECHANICAL ENGINEERS AND THE AUTHORISED SERVICE CENTRE CAN MINT MONEY BY STATNG SOME PROBLEMS IN THE SPARE PARTS/VEHICLES WHICH IS AGAINST THE CONSUMER RIGHTS.

Last but not least, allegations were levelled against me by the service department of SAB motors, which is also incorrect in all respects as the IR app installed in the vehicle clearly shows 10 out of 10 grading to me as a driving person which can be realized from the app itself. Now really I lost all faith in TATA Motors for making trouble which caused me mental harassment/physical harassment and financial loss by purchasing a TATA vehicle. This may also happen to the customers who buy Tata vehicles by availing car loans from banks and paying interest for the same.

Now I wish to get a new vehicle instead of this vehicle, as this vehicle may make troubles and make undue mental trouble to me and affect my day-to-day work., as in my case it is a manufacturing defect. I request them to look into the matter personally and do what is necessary at the earliest as I bought this vehicle for my day-to-day conveyance to my office and back.

I have taken up the matter with customer care, and the reply is quoted herewith

I think Tata Motors, a reputed manufacturer making some highly reliable vehicles, and using huge amounts for advertising, may use a little action to satisfy its valued customers, which may increase the perceptions of the general public in respect of Tata Motors.
