Agoda — Booking not being cancelled even when booking is 2 months in advance

Hello,
I made a hotel booking on Agoda on August 15. On 23rd Of October, with over 2 months of time left for the actual date, I tried to cancel the booking.
I called up the hotel and they said as the booking was made on the website, I need to cancel there. On the website, I am trying to cancel and the penalty is greater than the booking price. There is 2 months to go and the hotel can get the rooms booked in time.
My complain is how can a website make a room cancellation non-refundable when there is ample time left.
This website does not have a customer care number where I can reach. Plans change and people should be able to alter it especially when there is over 2 months left.
