[Resolved]  Airtel — Free Airtel HDtv Settop Box - A myth

Hi,

Last year I had bought a TV from Flipkart. With the TV i got a deal to buy Airtel HD Set-top box for Rs.699 instead of regular[protected] price range. I took the offer and asked the Airtel to install my set-top box. So came the install date. When technician arrived at my place, he said sir you will not get coverage on your floor(5th floor) so you'll have to get it installed on terrace of your building which was 15 floors(20th floor) above my flat. It sounded fishy to me as that guy just by standing on the floor judged there wont be any signal here(Note: All DTH companies have equipment to check the signal strength which this installer was not ready to take a reading from).

Since i had no other option, i asked him to install dish on terrace. With new connection you just get 10meters of cable free, for rest of extra cable you have to pay Rs.10/m. In my case this extra cable turned out to be 75 meters so i paid extra Rs. 750 atop of Rs.699 for discounted set-top box cost. In total I paid Rs. 1449. To this point everything went smooth.

Now come my new neighbors, same floor of-course. Now they get a Airtel HD box installed but right next to their flat on the same floor (5th floor). Apparently they had coverage on the same floor where my box would not receive.

So I called the company to complain about this issue. After chasing them for 2-3days I got a call from[protected]. To my surprise gentleman on the line said sir we have investigated your case and it seems there was no coverage on the floor when you got your set-top box installed, but when your neighbors got their installed we had enhanced the coverage in your area. Apparently the gentleman forgot these set-top boxes are satellite tvs, they receive signals directly from satellites not from cell phone towers.

I cant laugh enough about the dumbness of airtel experts. If their experts are this dumb i could agree the installers would be even dumber after all they are unskilled labors. I am now waiting for Dish TV portability to come so that i discontinue paying a money making fraud company and switch to some good provider like Tata Sky.

Anyways If you are getting a bundled offer for set-top box and be prepared to hear that there is no coverage nearby your home and you'll have to pay extra to install the dish in some weird location to get the coverage.

I am not gonna use any airtel product ever. A thankless company who doesnt care about their customer complaints and is busy making money out of customers who do not do their homework.
