Airtel — Sim Registered in wrong name inspite of submission of ID and address proof.

From MS. Madhuri K Shivangi No. 94, “Swapna Villa’, 5th Cross, Chandra Layout, Bangalore – 560 040 Mobile :[protected] [protected]@gmail.com 4th May 2015 Bangalore To The Concerned Office Airtel Bangalore Sir, / Madam, Sub : Regarding ownership of the Airtel Sim Card __________________________________________________________ Sir, / Madam, Iam Madhuri K Shivangi, resident of Bangalore, and am AIRTEL customer since atleast 2006. Sir, as this letter is going to be a little lengthy, I request your goodself to kindly spare a few of your valuable time to read it with patience. Thank you. I have been an AIRTEL customer(Postpaid) since atleast 2006, as I have forgotten the exact date as to when I purchased the airtel connection. I was allotted the mobile no. [protected]. To prove that I have been airtel customer, I enclose a few receipts and postpaid bills which are in my name. I remember having given my ID proof and address proof to the airtel office situated then at Gandhi Bazaar, Bangalore. I wish to bring to your kind attention that, at the time of purchase of the Airtel connection then, I was asked to submit a passport size photograph which I did submit. I am unable to understand that inspite of me giving my photograph, and me mentioning that I am “Miss”, postpaid bills were addressed to Mr. MADHURI K SHIVANGI. How could the person in-charge of data entry miss out about this small detail…?! In any case, I can only give the person a benefit of typing error/oversight. After a few years, I choose to shift from Postpaid to prepaid and went back to the same airtel office at Gandhi Bazaar and as per the then formalities filled up the application accordingly without changing the mobile number..Since then and till date, I have been on airtel prepaid number [protected]. With this little background, I now wish to draw your attention to the weird experience I went through when I choose to get a micro sim card for my smart phone. On 4th May 2015, at around 12.30 noon, I first went to the airtel showroom on Hanumanthanagar, 50 Feet Road, and asked for a micro simcard. The girl at the counter asked me for my mobile no. I told her [protected]. At this she asked me for the name. I told her that my name is Madhuri K Shivangi and my father’s name is K.V.Shivangi after she asked for it. I was shocked when she said that the sim card is in the name of MANJULA and not MADHURI. She asked me if I had submitted the documents of MANJULA at any earlier point of time to airtel. I told her that I have only submitted documents in proof of my ID and address i.e. MADHURI and that I know nobody by the name MANJULA so as to buy a sim card in that name. She and her colleague kept repeating this and I kept repeating that I am Madhuri and not MANJULA. This irritated me and I did get harsh. I told her that I have been using this airtel no. for more than 10-15 years now, but the people at the airtel office were deaf to my words. The conversation turned into a heated argument between another airtel staff who had chosen to remain silent till then. He came up with an argument that “ get us the ID proof documents of MANJULA and collect the micro sim card”. I repeatedly told him that I have been using the number [protected] for more than 10-15 years now and that I am not MANJULA and hence I cannot get the documents. He went to the extent of saying that I was an imposter who intended to take a micro simcard in some others name… how ridiculous…!!! He explained to me that the dealer to whom I had submitted the ID proof documents then might not have submitted to the airtel office… or they could have put my documents to MANJULA. I could not take this insult and out of frustration, I asked him to give me in writing the reason for refusing to give me a micro simcard. He refused to give one saying that he comes across atleast 50 such cases a day and he cannot give everybody in writing. He asked me to go to the airtel offfice situated near Jayadeva hospital for further clarifications. Now, my question is, 1. where are the ID proofs which I had submitted when I purchased my airtel postpaid connection and which I submitted during conversion from Postpaid to prepaid ..? 2. How and from where did this MANJULA becoms the owner of my sim…? 3. How am I responsible if the earlier airtel dealer did not submit the right documents at the right time to the right officers…? Soon I realised that the staff at Hanumanthanagar 50 feet Road airtel office will not give me a satisfactory solution to my problem, I walked out of the office in disgust. I went to the DVG road branch of airtel office. I asked for the manager of the office, but the girl at the counter did not want to give me any details about the manager. She asked me for what I needed the manager. I told her that I had a problem and I feel that none of the staff could help me and that the manager is the only person who can help me and as such I wish to speak to the manager. She remained silent for the next few minutes and after a weird reaction, pointing to a young lady staff who standing close by, she asked me to speak to the lady staff. I understand that the lady staff with whom I spoke was SHILPA. I asked if this office was earlier situated at Gandhibazaar main road. She replied that it indeed was and that since the last 3 years they had moved in to DVG Road. I spoke to her about my problem. I told her that I had purchased a post paid airtel connection and had submitted all the required ID proof and address proof documents from their office which was situated on GandhiBazaar Main Road. I told her that I had choosen to convert the postpaid connection to pre paid. But now that I wish to purchase a micro sim card, my airtel connection [protected] is not at all in my name and the records at airtel systems say it belongs to somebody by name MANJULA. According to me this is indeed a BLUNDER. How did this happen…? How will this be rectified now….? At this, Ms. Shilpa said that at the time of conversion or if duplicate sim was purchased the documents might have been submitted wrongly, which I totally deny. Why at all will I submit ID proof and Address proof of an unknown person…? Anyways, now Ms. Shilpa suggested that, I need to convert my prepaid no. to postpaid and use it for a minimum period of 3 months and that I (MADHURI) will be issued a micro sim immediately which will be activated within 48 hours for postpaid services. After 3 months, I can convert it back to prepaid no. and that the ownership will be in the name of MADHURI. I was left with no choice but to agree and accept her suggestion. I paid Rs. 300/- for the microsim to be issued in my name i.e. MADHURI K SHIVANGI by submitting my ID Proof and Address proof (Driving License and PAN Card). Now I have to wait for three months to see, if my airtel No. [protected] will be in my name inspite of submitting all relevant documents, which was mine earlier also but, inbetween somebody else becomes the owner…!!! Now, please answer a few more of my queries... 1. How and when did the ownership change from MADHURI K . SHIVANGI to MANJULA for the mobile connection number [protected]. 2. Who is responsible for the mistake. Who will rectify it. How will it be rectified. 3. Who will own the responsibility for the mental and social harassment I have gone through running from pillar to post to in search of a solution for a problem for which I am not at all responsible. I have been a victim all along. I hope you will atleast now take the necessary action against the wrong doers and rectify the problem at the earliest. This is for your information that, My legal advisor will take it forward and file a case against airtel and a copy of this letter is also mailed to the City Police Commissioner. In anticipation of your early response. Madhuri K Shivangi. [protected] [protected]@gmail.com

Same thing has happened with my number as well. Instead of my name, it has been registered in the name of the person who is the agent! Airtel does not even respond to the complaints, even after 18 months, in your case!

It should read my daughter's name, not my name!
