Airtel — Innovating ways to grow EBITDA

I've 2 SIMs of Airtel ( 1 Post Paid & 1 Prepaid). Some days back i got an SMS on my pre-paid mobile that a particular service would be activated on this connection & i would be charged accordingly. I was surprised to read this, since i did not ask for it & neither requested for it by sending any SMS.

I immediately contacted the Customer Care at 121 ( that call is also chargeable) & the executive confirmed that there is no such request pending with them for activation of any service & hence need not to be worried about. To my surprise, the services were activated on the pre-paid connection on 4.2.2011 even after i received the confirmation from the executive & i was charged accordingly. Now my balance went on negative side.

Actually this happened for the 2nd time that the services have been activated without my request & have been charged. In first instant i had a doubt & hence went on to recharge the account to talk to Customer care to discontinue the services immediately. But this time, i was sure that i did not ask for it & hence did not recharged the account. Who knows, BHARTI AIRTEL would again re-activate the service without any request & i'll loose my money.


I tried to connect to customer care through the pre-paid but was not successful since i do not have any money in the account.


I tried connecting the customer care through the post-paid connection but i was surprised to know that the executive was help less from his side since the call was connected to post-paid customer care section, he cannot retrieve any data for the pre-paid section & BHARTI AIRTEL does not have any facility to transfer the call from post-paid section to Pre-paid section.

Instead the executive asked me contact from either land line or other service providers connections.

I was really frustrated for this kiosk.

In this high tech, competition driven market (not to forget the MNP service) where there are rock bottom call rates & where profit margins are dropping everyday, I must really appreciate BHARTI AIRTEL's effort to keep up their EDIBTA by innovating new ways of making holes into the pockets of the customer by making false deductions.

BHARTI AIRTEL is spending millions in buying assets worldwide ( BHARTI AIRTEL has services in Africa, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka) but is forgetting its home country, where they have grown from scratch to a multi million dollar MNC.


I will not become poor by such false deduction (b'coz now i'm not going to re-charge the account again but instead return the SIM with the official complaint) but think how much revenues BHARTI AIRTEL would be generating from such false deductions if they start (No doubt they must have already started) such false deductions from atleast 50% of their customer every now & then.

Other Service Providers,..........learn new ways from BHARTI AIRTEL to keep up your top line.
