[Resolved]  M S Ramaiah Hospital — An case which is diagnoised TB, later concluded as lung cancer

This is a case study, where a wrong medical diagnosis, which lead to the patient and underwent tremendous mental agony, pain, monitory losses. If the disease could have diagnosed in early stages, and adequately, appropriately treated the patient, we would have saved her from cancer. In the month of April 2008 my mother has been diagnosed as tuberculosis and medication prescribed for the same. And after five months, August 2008 it has been concluded as Non Hodgkin Lymphoma – type of lung cancer. The patient is my mother Aswathamma 70 years, the victim and subjected all sorts of clinical evaluation and research.

The objective of sharing this issue is to demonstrate, the degree of professionalism, ethical, accountability of doctors and hospitals.

a) On[protected], my mother has been admitted to M. S Ramaiah Hospital for having the complaint as breathlessness, and after a brief investigation doctors concluded as tuberculosis and discharged on[protected] with medication as AKT tablets. (There was no clarity, on what basis doctors arrived at conclusion as tuberculosis.

b) On[protected] again for breathlessness, she has been admitted, again discharged on[protected], with having done X –ray and added medicines.

c) On[protected], again admitted and discharged on[protected], without any decisions and adequate conclusions.

d) On[protected], the fluid was taken from the lungs for lab analysis

e) On[protected], conducted CT scan, No. 18959, again there was no conclusion and asked as to continue AKT tablets.

f) On[protected], MRD No. 156284, laparoscopy done and lymph node / omentum No. 1868 AB 08 and there was no conclusion in the biopsy report, discharged on[protected] laparoscopy done on[protected] and delayed biopsy report results available on[protected]

g) Once, we lost hopes with M.S Ramaiah Hospital, we admitted our mother at KMC hospital. Mangalore on[protected], IP No. 82121 /[protected] and able to get professional treatment. At KMC hospital, the biopsy report indicates “ NON HDGKIN LYMPHOMA B CELL LYMPHOMA”

There was lot of conflicting issues can be seen in this case.

1. The same samples sent for biopsy – how can we get two different results.
- Is it incompetent personnel / evaluating methods?
- How come the personnel at M.S Ramiah hospital concluded, it was tuberculosis and prescribed medication AKT ?
- What is the creditability of pathological laboratories?
- How come so called professionals considering the issues, so lightly
- Is it lack of accountability, commitment, when the report indicates there were no indication / traces of tuberculosis, still advised to take AKT tablets.

We lost precious time, money spent 3 lacs and lot of mental agony for the patient and family, and we are seriously considering, taking legal action on the hospital authorities, sharing this issue with media and NGOs.

We had a horrible experience with the New MS Ramaiaha hospital. Recently, my uncle met with an accident and was admitted here. For over a week now we have been roaming around 4 floors to get the insurance cleared. Its still pending. We have contacted the insurance company and they say "we are just waiting for the hospital authority to submit the documents". Hospital insurance desk have submitted the documents, but its been rejected twice.

We have no idea what is happening inside. If we question them, they say "Internal enquiry and clarification is needed". I have no clue why this is required. If we ask for a photo copy of the documents, they say "Why do you want the photo copy...we will not be giving any photocopies".The so called customer relationship manager (Roopa) does not care for their customer's and is useless. We contacted the administrator of the hospital too, and that's only waste of time. Very soon i learnt that it was not only we and there were many cases who are going through this pain and trouble. The root cause of all this mess is the error in data entry during admitting the patient. Now the hospital is reluctant to correct the mistake, due to which insurance is not getting cleared. This post is for people who are/will be planning to visit New MS Ramaiaha. Please think twice before visiting. I am aware and heard from many of my colleagues and friends that Manipal is the best and the process is very simple, clear and the hospital takes complete care of getting the insurance cleared.
My dad was admit in Ramaiyah for Kidney treatment.First of all they cause unnecessary delay in treatment. The process which could complete in 3-4 days, they take whole week to complete just to make money.Secondly the hospital staff is very careless in their attitude.
They don't take care of patients.Really disappointed by service here.
Ms ramaiah hcg department is worst, careless, n doctor anil Kumar has no concern about patient, worst doctor. He is not fit to be a doctor. Because of his negligence i lost my dad.
The staff also not good. We are planning to file a case on them. God should punish that doctor anil Kumar. Hopeless.
