LG Electronics — White spots on LG LED TV - Poor design and poor customer service

I bought the LG 32 in LED TV (Model: 32LB563B) 2 years back through Flipkart. Few weeks back, all of a sudden three white spots of one rupee size started appearing vertically at the left most side of the TV.

I googled about it and found some forum that discussed exactly the same problem that I was facing. Looks like it is a common problem in LB series of LG TV that introduced a new technology. Some glass type material covering the LED is falling down and that creates a bright white sport on the screen. This is happening due to the poor design of LB series TVs.

Then, I called the LG customer care and explained them about the problem and the solution discussed in the forum. I told them that this seems to be some common problem that occurs in LB series so there should be some fix available in your records and requested them for the approximate cost for fixing this issue. They said that they haven't heard such error so they are not sure how much it would cost and only the Technician can come and have a look. I booked for technician visit.

The LG technician came in few hours and had a look at the TV screen and checked the ports with a meter. Without opening the TV, just by looking outside itself, he said the LED strip is gone and needs to be replaced completely. He said, it would cost 5000 plus service charges etc. Its been just 2 years and the repair cost is almost 30% of my actual TV cost. I was bit hesitant so I told him that I will think about it and give a call back. He charged me Rs.300 for this visit.

Later that day, I decided to open the TV and check it out myself. I followed some you-tube videos and open the panel and found that 3 one rupee size glass materials that was covering the LEDs were out of place. I fixed them at right place and assembled everything back. The white spots were gone. Its been almost 10 days now and its all working fine without any issues.

The complaint here is,

1) Poor Support: If it is common problem due to poor design, why LG customer care is not aware of it and support the customer with right solution.?

2) Poor Design: If there is a known design issue in a particular series of model with usage of substandard material, why can't LG provide free of service?

3) Poor Diagnosis: Why the LG Support Technician is trying to loot money from customers with wrong diagnosis? He would have addressed many similar issues and he would know that it is not a major issue. Instead of fixing it with less cost, why the LG support is creating panic among customers and trying to charge them more?

Attaching an image that shows how the inside panel looks like. As you can see there are round buttons placed on top of the LED. Some times those buttons just fell down and hence the LED light is falling directly on the glass panel that appears like a bright white spot on the TV Screen.

I just placed the button in place and the issue is resolved. It has been already 2 months and the TV is working fine till now. Another customer who followed my post and repaired it herself shared this image with me.

If you can't repair it yourself, bring in the LG technician to your home and instruct him to open the panel in front of your eyes and ask him to fix the fallen pieces alone. He should not charge more than Rs.650 + taxes.

I hope the LG India would read this and address the issue for the benefit of customers.

Recently i had problem white circles on my 3years old lg 32lb5610.LG technician came and glued all reflectors in place which fixed issue.Charged 950 for that.

I also faced the same problem with LG 42 inches .Lg Customer support are charging 8000/- for the repair.
Is it problem will rectified if we place the glass pieces in right place.Is it such a small repair.They told they need to replace the backstrip

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response. You can see 3 small dots behind the glass piece also around the LED. When you put them in place, make sure that these dots are matched at both ends.
I have faced same issue and saw one spot for which he charged 1000 Rs for diagnose and told that it needs full led panel to change and which will charge 22k for them. Seriously then people will not buy led t.v if the maintenance cost is too high. CRT will be better at least which you will not face any issue for 5 years .
LG customer service people are expertise to loot people and grow in their business. I thought of selling my T.V and buying lesser price t.v
I too had the same issue in my TV. Called LG service personnel who visited and told me that some chip is gone and it will cost 8000 Rs. I was shocked. I told him that it is just a matter of fallen reflectors but that guy didn't oblige to open the panel. Paid him 350 Rs for his useless visit and asked him to leave.

Then saw few youtube videos and fixed it myself in an hour. Its just keeping the fallen reflectors in place.
Such cheaters these people are. Shame on you LG. not going to buy your products ever again.
The same problem is showing in my TV 42LB 5820 model. There are 6 no of bright spots are located in two column at the center of the screen. This is merely 2 years of purchasing. It is really very disappointing. We are paying huge money for better quality but this is total failure. Company is doing serious offence with their customer. I would recommend not to buy any LG product. Please spread this news to others so that no one will buy LG products.

please send proof and evidences of substandard material usage in LG products. I can publish this news in media.

Recently I also faced the same situation with LG TV technician from Bangalore. For small issue(Wifi Connection and Mobile pairing) he opened the TV and handled roughly and he damaged my TV and now he is saying that, you only did the damage and you have to pay for that. I have escalated this matter to higher level and they also saying that, since you did the damage and pay for that, we can't do anything.

His name is Dinesh from Bangalore., so please beware of him. If he comes for any support, please make a complete video of what he will do. Otherwise he will screw your TV and you have to pay for that.

When I called to customer support 1st time, I explained the problem clearly and they agree that this is common problem and cost will be around 1000. So I raised a request, technician visited next day and within seconds he concluded need to change the back light and its cost 6000 and service charge 800 (total 6800).I was shocked and called to customer support 2nd time about the cost and the problem, they changed the words like "we don't know about the problem and we are not supposed to tell even if it is common problem, technician only will decide what is the issue and its cost". This is worst support experience I ever faced.
I called to service centre he told this problem started from 2014 and still its going on, if you have any concerns check with customer support(toll free).
My question is, if everyone aware this is a known issue then why LG can't fix in its next releases and people giving extra money from their pockets about 6000 to 8000 to their parts.
It seems this is also one type business upon common and innocent people like us.And they making us fools.
Now I decided I don't want to buy any LG products in future. Coming to LED TVs Sony is the best even 1 or 2k more, don't go for LG.

I have also purchase lg smart tv lb5820 in 2014. Within warranty period of 1year no issue observed, but after 1 year we have seen white spots on my tv screen. We repaired it through lg service engineer & with in the span of another 8-9 months same spot observed on the screen with more nos now 17 white sports are observed on the screen. Same issue we observed at my friend TV also of LG brand only. We are totally unhappy by such type of lg product. We will never ever buy lg product. We are investing around 50k and the product is not working for 1 year.

I also faced the same problem with my LG led tv model-42LB6500 after about one and a half year. Price was around 70000/=. LG mechanic said that panel holding reflectors needs replacement and the cost would be around Rs22000/=. Very very bad product . LG service is also very bad and the target is to cheat the customer.

I also faced this white spot problem in my LG 32 inch TV (32LB563B-TD). Going through the complaints it is clear that all the LG TVs have this white spot issue (that too after guarantee period expire).

LG technicians are cheaters, not only in other cities also in CHENNAI. They know this is only a small reflector fixing issue and will take only one hour to do without any spare parts changing. Still they say the panel has to be replaced.
One of the technicians (in Chennai) who came to me told LG will charge you 3500/- to replace the panel but i will repair the problem privately for Rs.1500/- without bill. I thought it may be a big problem in the board and he is doing a favor to me by fixing the problem without replacing the entire part !! I agreed to the deal.

I watched him what repair work he is going to do, to my surprise he just bought a Rs.5/- Fevifix and pasted few of the reflectors which have fallen from the board and closed the back cover. Now there is no white spot.

How come for just pasting some glass reflectors in their place they charge Rs.1500/-. that too its a know issue in all the TVs.. how bad they are cheating in front of our eyes.

Next story, after 8 to 9 months few more white dots came and I ignored, now the TV clarity is gone and its
black in all the corners. When check in google, ii found its the LED back light issue and the LED bulb might have fused. HO GOD, no i don't want to call LG service any more, let me try my hand or sell this TV for scrap value.
i have 42lb65. issues and diagnosis:

3 or 4 dead leds, i will replace these
however, not sure why the white circles, they are not "sharp white", rather dull cloudy circles.
i suppose the disks may have come loose, however i have checked and all the disks are secure in place

what then, could be the reason for the cloudy white circles?

Facing the same problem. Last time they charged 5000 to replace the backlight strips now 2nd time they are planning to loot 6000 for my 32 inch LG TV.

Please suggest how I can Proceed?
