I am writing this as an extremely disappointed and dissatisfied and cheated customer and I hope Amplifon will take these things into consideration before desperately calling me with half-assed “solutions” as a PR exercise which are actually of no help.

I had actually emailed them with my grievances but received no response.

This complaint is not addressed to the hearing aid centres and Amplifon’s employees. This is directed at Amplifon’s administration and its core business strategy - of looting people and cutting costs for their own profit.

Dear Team Amplifon - Ever since Widex became Amplifon, one thing has been thrown out of the window - compassion for the customer. PROFIT CUSTOMER - if this is your business model, you’re not going to have any customers anymore and I will make sure of it.

Please remember one thing - your customer base is a community of people who don’t have a SENSE. A very important sense. And this leaves us struggling to COMMUNICATE. We cannot survive in this world if we cannot COMMUNICATE. And hence, we come to you to provide us hearing aids so that we can COMMUNICATE. First understand this, empathise with this and then read further.

I had two problems:

1. The problem of rechargeable batteries is causing me a lot of distress on an everyday basis as well as monetarily. “using non- rechargeable batteries” as you suggested half heartedly is not a solution.

2. According to your customer service - the rechargeable batteries apparently spoil the hearing aids further. Why are you making these hearing aids and selling them to people then? And my “degree of loss” is not supported by the alternative - what the hell does that even mean? Are you seriously thinking we are so dumb? You are selling hearing aids worth lakhs and lakhs of rupees that people are selling their organs to purchase. And then you say that these parts of your lakhs worth hearing aids don’t work and we don’t have a replacement because YOUR hearing loss is too high. Conveniently putting the customer in a spot when YOU should be providing the solution.

3. Anyway since you have now decided that I have to go with non-rechargeable batteries - do something. Pay for them. My hearing aids consume the complete battery in 1 day. That makes it two new batteries for EVERY DAY.

4. I was sold these hearing aids with one promise among many - that they have rechargeable batteries. And I don’t care if you have phased out not phased out what is working what is not working where your profits are getting made where they are not. I was promised rechargeable batteries. And I WILL HAVE IT.

5. Or else if the batteries are going to be non-rechargeable - you are going to give me a lifelong supply of batteries because I paid through my nose to buy these faulty hearing aids with faulty batteries. And after one year you can’t turn around and tell me we have phased out a part of this model or made faulty batteries. That is YOUR PROBLEM NOT MINE. And your company’s loss. NOT MINE. I will not pay for your company’s trials and errors. YOU WILL.

6. Either source the rechargeable batteries from any centre across India - or buy my batteries. Simple.

7. Please invest some of your profits in building as many laboratories as you have centres. Don’t just focus on sales and hence centres. Have some regard for your customers and provide equipped laboratories across the cities you have centres in.

8. I gave my hearing aids for servicing and it took me a month and a half to get them back. That is one and half months of not being able to hear because of your ridiculous “Hearing aid will go to Bengaluru, then Timbuktu, then London, then servicing will be done. Then courier guy will pick it up at 10:00 AM and deliver it at 12:00 AM to the centre in ABC Road in XYZ City but our office will be closed on this day so you come after 1 year to pick it up.”

9. My hearing aid wire broke in the second week of September 2021. I got it back in the first week of November 2021. And here’s how the process went.

I was given the wrong warranty card. At the time of sale. So the hearing aid was lying stuck after estimation for a month because the warranty problem had to go through many chains of commands before being approved. THIS IS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE PLEASE REMEMBER THERE IS A CUSTOMER AT THE END OF THIS HIERARCHY GOING WITHOUT HEARING FOR A MONTH BECAUSE OF YOUR ERROR.

Anyway, I couldn’t afford to wait a month for you to process my paperwork so I asked for a trial pair to sustain me for this period. It was refused. (Yeah because where is the profit in this? Screw the customer and her hearing problem - we don’t care about that.)

I then went ahead and purchased a back up pair. This took 1 week to arrive. Because I purchased a pair - now your centre had a backup pair to offer till this hearing aid would arrive. Funny, heh? Profit made? Okay, let’s help the customer a little bit…

Then finally when my hearing aids returned from repair and servicing after a month - they came back with the wrong wire. Since you don’t have equipped laboratories in Kolkata (but you have 8-10 centres) the hearing aid was then sent to Bengaluru for wire replacement. It still came back, after another week, with the wrong wire.

However this time, because I could not afford to wait anymore - I am currently making do with the wrong wire you have provided WHICH I HAVE PAID FOR BECAUSE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I have PAID FOR THE WRONG PART. And I am instead, as a customer, having to empathise and feel sorry for your client servicing team and your centres and the back and forth your employees are having to do. Because you do not have basic parts like wires available except in these mysterious laboratories in Bengaluru and Timbuktu and Sweden.

Are you noticing a pattern in your business model? Please do something about it. Before I do.
