My BMW G 310 R motorcycle (2021 model, purchased from KUN Motorrad Chennai) suffered catastrophic engine failure at just 31, 503 km on 11th March 2026. The engine stopped suddenly while riding on the highway with no prior warning.
The authorized dealer KUN Motorrad, Teynampet, Chennai diagnosed it as internal engine failure and quoted Rs 86, 191 for a complete engine rebuild including crankshaft, pistons, bearings, camshafts, timing chain, and valves.
The dealer's diagnosis is contradictory — first claiming "insufficient oil" but their own inspection found 2.0 liters of oil in an engine with 1.6 liter recommended capacity. No oil analysis was conducted. The previous authorized service at 19, 783 km found all engine parameters normal.
BMW Motorrad India (Case ID: [protected]) rejected my goodwill request blaming "aftermarket repair" — but the only external work was an oil change with Motul 7100 premium fully synthetic oil and a minor ignition coil fix. Neither causes catastrophic engine failure.
12 confirmed catastrophic engine failures are documented globally on the G 310 platform. BMW has provided goodwill engine replacement in the majority of those cases. I am being denied the same support.
This is my only vehicle. I have been commuting by public bus since March 11th. I request BMW India to provide goodwill support for this product quality failure.
