Hi Neeru.

The problem may not be of the device if you have purchased it from a genuine retailer with Bill and Warrenty...

A lot of the devices have older versions of their OS because of the time lapse between the manufacturing date (with the latest OS installed then) and the time it is purchased from the market (by when, probably a version upgrade has arrived from RIM)...

So, here's what you need to do:

- On your home screen, click on the BlackBerry Icon on the front panel
- Go to 'options'
- Within Options; click on 'About'; .. you should be able to see the version of your device OS in the third row; it should read v5.0.0.xxx ; pls note it down on a piece of paper... Any version lesser than v5.0 needs an upgrade for it to run smoothly in India...
- If indeed the version is lower than 5.0; go to the following link - https://www.blackberry.com/downloads
- From here, you can download the latest OS depending on your device (8520, in this case), after filling in certain mandatory details...
- Also, for back up as well as smooth opertations of your device, you will need to install a BlackBerry Desktop Manager on your PC / Laptop
- The same should be available on the site as well..
- Your OS upgrade s/w and desktop manager once downloaded, you'll first have to install the desktop manager; then once installed, close the program
- Then install the OS upgrade... it will automatically upgrade the OS version in the desktop manager too...
- Then once completed (the whole process of installation will take approx 60 to 90 mins).. connect your device to the PC and start the desktop manager...
- It will automatically ask for upgrade; click yes and there you go...
- I would advise you to take weekly backups of your phone thru the desktop manager; its quiet a handy tool.. it backs up everything; your contacts / calender / BBM contacts / SMS / Emails.. etc... everything but your external memory card..
- The back up file will be quiet handy when you either replace your phone; or it hangs / gets stolen, etc..

- Most people do not either upgrade the OS regularly or use the desktop manager... That's the root cause of all problems !!

- Be glad to help if you need more info..

- Happy BBing !!

Rgds,

B Man
