I had a horrible experience today with Western Union Money Transfer. I have been to their branch located in a Sify Internet Parlour, opposite to NRM College, APHB colony, Moulali, Hyderabad. I had the reference number and passport at hand. First the lady at the shop wanted to know the amount being transferred. Then when I produced my passport for verification she asked me for two front and back side copies of my passport. I was a bit taken back as it is my passport and you never know in India when someone can get their hands on the information and create a duplicate. It was a genuine casue of concern for me. I asked her politely that I do not remember western union asking people to produce copies of their ID and told her that the original was in front of her if she wanted to check it she is free to. At this point she started an argument and yelled at me saying that others also submit copies of their passports. Her husband escorted me outside the shop. It was a very rude behaviour on their part and they should understand the sensitivity of data protection. I have sent money on many occasions when I was in UK but I never heard of such a thing. As I am from UK I did not have a indian driving license
to produce as proof. I have sent a complaint to the western union customer service. I am never going back to their branch again. Was this information helpful? |
