[Resolved]  Honda Unicorn — Poor durability of honda parts

Hi,

I have bought Honda Unicorn, in April 2005. Riding the bike was heaven for the first year.
After that the troubles have started. When ever we give the bike for paid service we we tell the supervisor of the Honda service center to look into so n so aspects, but as far my experience is concerned they never do anything except the put an engine oil which costs nearly Rs.200 and charge us.

Here are list of spare parts I have replaced in the last three years
1.Disk brake pads -- two times( very poor durability) --It costs nearly 400-500

2.Rear brake shoe -- two time ( worst durability) -- it cost nearly 500

3.Chain sproket -- one time --nearly 800 -- I have complained to the supervisor in the before service that the chain is making but inspite of that they have never looked into it and that negligence costed me to change the whole thing during this service

4.Front dome's wizer -- two times -- nealy[protected]one time it was an accident, but the first time it was due it's poor durability)

5.Indicator lights -- two times -- each costs nearly -- 120 (I have spent nearly 600) on these

6. Indicator case of LHS handle -- nearly 500 (poor durability)

I have changed few other things also which are trivia.

While buying this bike I thought I am buying the best bike in India looking at the brand of Honda.
But looking at the maintenance cost during these four years(nearly[protected], I regret my choice.
I am not sure why Honda has so much of fame, despite of it's worst customer service and less durable yet costliest parts.

I have written this not just as complaint, but I want to help others to make a better choice while buying a 150cc which costs nearly 65K+ now a days.
I advice all of you not to opt for Honda bikes, and if you have Honda bike and going for service never opt for Pratul Honda service center, Kondapur, Hyderabad.

I bought a Honda Unicorn from Kothari Wheels Wakadewadi .Pad itoken amount and Kothri Wheels sold my booked Unicorn to other person & got the delivery after two months which was not committed date. I talked to Honda
head office & they inform me, my booked Unicorn was delivered on committed date.But there was no action on it & I got 200 Km running bike as Kothari inform me Red+Black bike no more available as Honda stopped the
production. So Kothari requested to Ahmednager dealer for release the Red+Black color bike. So that Kothari person ride in it from Nagar to Pune & because of that bike run 200 Km. So I have accepted the bike Keeping on faith on them
& next day I found my bike tell lamp was dead I asked them for replacing that and got a funny answer “Bulbs are not covered in warranty it may dead any time. after 7 days “ . Then suddenly I faced the handle pulling problem its turning on automatically on right or left side. I informed them about the same but they told that it is happening as there might be some accident happened
with the bike. When I objected They investigated & check everything & came into conclusion that there is some problem in my bike & replaced the Cone set. This happened for several time and after changing the con set for 5 time still
the same problem is persisting.

Further problem of my
viecle stated below .

1) From first day having handle pulling & fork ply problem.

2) Replaced battery in warranty period & till heaving a issue the same.

3) Having a big sound before pushed leg break.

4) CDI problem

5) Parts/ Accessories not available in store room but it’s easily available in local market.

6) No one noticed during bike in servicing oil is coming out from engine.

7) Big noise while changing gear.

8) Every time I got the answer service center don’t have time for servicing.

9) After servicing if something forgot or new issue arrived got the patent answer we don’t have time now to do stuff; come after 3 / 4 days.

10) Last time technician forgot to tight screw at chain end. As I have giving the noise problem in chain box.

Most IMP:-- There is no warranty or guarantee for any Honda parts and it’s just faith on dealer or Honda.

I have been using a Honda Unicorn since 7 Apr 2007 and the bike has been handled as roughly as it could be. It already has 31500+ km on its odometer. I only have had to change its engine oil at regular intervals and the disk brake pad once. I only faced a problem once when I was forced to have my vehicle serviced from a non Honda person. May be this should be looked at before getting your vehicle serviced only get it done from a Honda Dealer.
i don't agree ...
u should tight ur chain all 500 Kms or u wil damage ur sprokets...then abt all other parts u hve replaced is due to ur misuse ...so no comments..all bikes get damaged in accidents...
Wear n tear is Very normal in the case of brakes n tyres..
U better buy some other 150cc bikes n ride it as u ride Unicorn...then post comments...

I also purchased Honda Unicorn assuming that it is best Bike in India, But with in 3/4 months it's side covers below seats got cracked. It's ignition switch start giving trouble after 3 years. It's Petrol tank got rusted & start leaking after 4 years which I have to replace for Rs. 4500/-. Most of the parts are very costly with poor quality. The bike has got cold starting trouble right from starting.

I feels I made mistake in going for Hond Bike. Also I purchased Eterno Scooter. It's rear wheel came out during driving. It's various switches are giving problems.
Am riding Honda Unicorn since Jan 2007. Its a good bike n i literally had no problems till now. Am a rough driver and usually my speed is between 50-70 kmph. I get a milage of around 62 kmpl. The only problem i face is that service of nearly all honda dealers is the worst. My advice, better go to a good reliable mechanic or service your bike yourself.

i would like to inform you that, i brought unicorn from your dealership at Karimanagar (Samrat Honda) .ENG NO :KC09E 1063108, CHASSIS NO : ME4KC093E98062115, for my periodic service i gave my bike on 05-08-09 to karimanagar (samarat),.the problem in bike battery is getting discharged with in 15 - 20 days i gave for three times for servicing , still they dint rectify my complaints and all work are pending.i gave my bike at auto fin Honda show room ( himyath nagar ,Hyderabad) supervisor MR. chary and in charge MR.Satish confirmed that battery was dead but they dint replace the battery even they dint give the conformation letter that battery was dead. please take immediate solution for that .

Hi Venkat,

i do agree on most of your points. Honda need to understand their dealers more then the customer as these people are more money centric and that is why they have opened the showrooms. Every time you tell them of a problem in your bike, without any thought, either the part need to be changed or they would avoid the complaint itself.

I will say Honda Unicorn is worst. Bike is good but ofcourse normal wear and tear will be there in any bikes. But whenever i leave my bike for service in Honda showroom they told to change spare parts and that too, all the spare parts are costlier than other bikes. Honda Dealer Service is the worst. Main problem in getting Honda bikes service outside is, we cannot get the spare parts outside whereas other bikes we can get.Overall Honda Service Stations are worst than anything.
I Agree to the Service from honda service it bad to worse i have to add a few exceptions in that case for i had real good service from 1 honda service. the bike i dont have complaints as its purely based on the drivers driving skills. I get 75 KMPL on my unicorn. Spares are difficult to get i agree. pls knw wht is to be serviced before u give it to service & try to see it done under your inspection then these problems can be avoided. I got a mechanic who does it for me as i instruct so its in prime condition.

for me also happen same thing at Pratul Honda service center, Kondapur, Hyderabad.
i bought new bike and i given to servicing at Pratul Honda service center, Kondapur, Hyderabad becouse it is less distence to my office.
Pratul Honda service center, Kondapur, Hyderabad taken my bike spare parts. i was observed at servicing delivery time about parts are missing. i asked them but they never agreed for that.
finally i have 3 hours conversation with them. the conversation like a mini fighting with them. then they given old spare parts from other bikes.

this is very bad.
so please don't give Honda bikes for servicing at Pratul Honda service center, Kondapur, Hyderabad.

today i went to ask the price of front disk pad and the DISK they said the pads coast around 400/- and the disk coast around 1, 600/-...if you go to Yamaha the fz disk pad coast only 150/- and the disk coast only 600/-...and the Honda break pads have less running life compared to Yamaha...is the price charged for the company's name or the parts ...
Honda is good company the service guys of india are not working nicely
In my experience if you are replacing genuine parts from Honda they will charge additional.
I have face a lot of negligence and false information by Honda for replacement of parts.
Example sometimes horn source is cracking which you can adjust by screw driver.
Honda Expert comments horn is gone need to replace.
Indicator buzzer will stop working if it pour or water droplets go inside which can remove by drying it or through by air. They will suggest directly to replace.
I too facing the same issue with unicorn as well as jsp Honda showroom, when ever I give it for they are charging more than 1500. It is very horrible for me to pay that much.
