Hi , I have bought CLOTHES from Shopper stop of around 5000 Rs and they have charged me extra VAT on the discounted Apparels On asking them that is this rule of extra VAT APPROVED by Govt of India , they said that " No , it is not approved by Govt Of India , It is the textile association which has decided on it Kindly help me out with this -Sumeet Goyal Was this information helpful? | |||

Now, it is the VAT issue. Retailers say, 50% discount...VAT extra.
In this case, VAT is already included in the MRP. If you buy it without discount, no additional VAT is to be added. So, what happens. They give you the discount and then again charge you 5% to 12.5% (varies from shop to shop, seems) on the discounted price. This means, actual discount you get is less than 50%, which is misleading advertising.
Can Govt department come up and stop these malpractices.
